Jenks Public Schools Job Description

Position: Licensed Professional Counselor

Reports to: Executive Director of Student Services and Principal

Supervises: None

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling or equivalent area.
  • Previous training and experience in mental health.
  • Licensed as a mental health professional.
  • Satisfy all district requirements with regards to physical health and citizenship.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Position Goal: Identify and assist students, families, and the school district in overcoming barriers that interfere with learning through the use of counseling, consultation, coordination of school and community resources, and program development.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide counseling for students and their families.
  • Participate in Intervention Team meetings, IEP meetings, teacher staffings, and parent conferences, as needed.
  • Behavioral consultations with parents and staff.
  • Participation in scheduled, departmental meetings.
  • Provide professional staff development opportunities regarding behavior assessment and intervention skills.
  • Maintain confidential, analytical and anecdotal records on all referred students.
  • Conduct individual or group counseling for students as specified in students’ Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Collaborate with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies, as well as school counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, and other staff as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of developments in the counseling field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Employment Terms: Nine (9) months a year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Benefits as established by Board policy.

FLSA Qualification: Non Exempt

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on Staff Evaluation (2.21/classified).

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop, kneel, crouch; lift/move up to 20 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands; repetitive use of fingers and hands.

Occasional Requirements: Reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds.

Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information.
