Morse Clinic was started by Dr. Eric Morse, an Addiction Psychiatrist, who was trained in the proper use of Methadone and Buprenorphine to treat opioid addiction. Our first clinic opened its doors in March 2010 in Clayton, offering support and medical assisted treatment to patients struggling with addiction. Currently, Morse Clinic has 8 locations in North Carolina.

Position Summary

Responsible for maintaining an adequate level of nursing for the program’s dispensing and medical operations. Responsible for ensuring that medical services are compliant with all federal and state regulations all under the supervision of the medical director by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and organize medical services to ensure patient’s needs are met in accordance with professional standards of medical and nursing care and hospital or center administrative procedures
  • Supply medications to patients per doctor's orders
  • Intake of new patients; including tb test, blood pressure, pulse oximeter, respiratory rate, pulse
  • Acts as a liaison for drug and equipment representatives and various state agencies as needed
  • Ensures that medical services are compliant with all federal and state regulations
  • Prepares and administers medication to patients while maintaining medication inventory records and logs in compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Provides physical addictions-related consultations to patients on an as-needed basis and recording such consultations in the patient’s records
  • Participates in professional development activities to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge and skills relevant to Morse Clinic duties
  • Consults with the medical director or nurse practitioner for guidance in medical matters concerning the well-being of patients
  • Provides random, supervised urine specimens for drug screen testing at the request of the program director or medical provider as needed
  • Preform pregnancy tests on patients, as needed and read and document results
  • Preform mouth swabs test on patients, as needed and read and document results
  • Responsible for medical orders being followed and carried out
  • Inventory medication stock, as needed
  • Order medication as directed by the medical director
  • Maintain adequate security over medication stock
  • Maintain medication inventory records and logs, in compliance with federal and state regulations and the program protocol
  • Maintain an adequate stock of all medical supplies
  • Receive medication shipments
  • Maintain patient medical records
  • Print and file patient dosing and inventory reports
  • Administer tuberculin skin tests and read and record test results in medical records
  • Provide physical additions-related consultations to patients on an as-needed basis and recording such consultations in the patient’s record
  • Coordinate and cooperate with local agencies and organizations necessary to expedite treatment for each patient
  • Coordinate medical treatment by providing information to patients about other services, such as hospitals and inpatient treatment facilities
  • Attends administrative, staff, and clinical treatment meetings
  • Schedule program physicians for intakes and schedule patient consultations with a program physician or the medical director
  • Works as a member of a team and participates in team meetings
  • Administers Methadone accurately and efficiently
  • Maintains accurate medication records including daily, monthly, and biennial medication logs
  • Complete initial assessment forms accurately and assemble and maintain patient medical records
  • NCPMP at minimum quarterly
  • Maintain accurate inventory including DEA 222 form maintenance


Qualifications

  • Associates Degree from accredited school of nursing is required
  • Must maintain current nursing license from the NC Board of Nursing
  • One-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination
  • Current CPR certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft office, NC controlled substance reporting system and Methasoft software
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively patient medication needs and progress to the medical director
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts
  • Ability to work solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor including attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to document accurately
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

Working Conditions

  • Standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Physical demands include periods of sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Use of the telephone, computer and other related instruments or devices while communicating with patients, caregivers, physicians, and staff. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to blood borne pathogens, tuberculosis, and needle sticks. Occasionally may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
