General Description: Cheesemakers are responsible for being efficient in the operation of the cheese manufacturing, brining, and whey operations. You are required to foster an environment of trust and open communication while developing your talent for your future and the future of the organization. This position must practice and mentor the safety of all employees while producing a quality product.

In this position you must interact well with all other departments of the cooperative.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

• Hold a current Wisconsin Cheesemakers License.
• Must be able to obtain other certifications and licenses as needed.
• Understand and operate the HTST’s milk and WPC vats, UFs salt brine and whey and other cheese and whey manufacturing equipment.
• Start up, CIP and operations of all production equipment.
• Properly read, record, and communicate production data as needed.
• Monitor lines, wash tanks, and ensure proper measurement of ingredients.
• Proper operation of the whey and milk pumps
• Promote and work efficiently and in a safe manner
• Maintain a sanitary workspace according to the companies Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Work with Production Supervisor to ensure that the makeroom is operating in compliance with customer and government regulations. (USDA, State, FDA, OSHA, HACCP, SQF)
• Maintain open communications with all departments.
• Willing to learn other positions.
• Follow all current company policies and procedures.
• Ability to start / restart all boilers as needed.
• All other duties appropriate to the position or as assigned.

Required (Basic) Education / Experience/ Competencies and Other Skills:

• Able to read and follow directions.
• Good Communication skills in both verbal and written.
• Computer knowledge is a plus, but we will train as needed.
• High school diploma, equivalent or eagerness to learn and work in the dairy industry.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs. repetitively.
• Stand for up to 10+ hours per shift.
• Squatting, Kneeling, Bending and use of stairs
• Pass a drug & alcohol screen as well as a general background check.

Food plant environment. Must adhere to all food and plant safety policies and regulations.
