The City of Sterling Heights is seeking a Local History/Archives focused part- time Librarian who is committed to the mission of the Sterling Heights Public Library and capable of providing excellent library services and programming to patrons!
Position Summary
The part-time Librarian position reports to the Service Area Coordinator and is responsible for reference and readers advisory services in Youth and Adult Services, maintenance of the library's local history collections, instruction in the use of the library and its resources, and in updating and verifying the bibliographic content of the catalog database. This anticipated vacancy specifically develops and presents programs for adults, conducts tours of the Upton House Museum, and provides a high-level of customer services to all library patrons.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Library Science, including coursework in Archives or Digital Content Management *Consideration will be given to candidates currently enrolled in a Master of Library and Information Science program, obtaining their MLIS within 6 months
- Graduate Certificate in Archival Administration preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work evening and weekend work schedule
- Knowledge of online databases, reference resources, and public computer applications to assist the general public
- Experience with Polaris LEAP automation system
- Knowledge of popular reading trends for adults
- Knowledge of tablet and mobile devices and the ability to help patrons use them for accessing Overdrive, Hoopla, and other digital services
