JOB SUMMARY:

The Bankruptcy Legal Assistant is responsible for several aspects of the Bankruptcy process including, but not limited to: preparing, drafting and filing Motions for Relief across multiple states, understanding all aspects of the department motion for relief process including nuances of Chapter 7,11, and 13 bankruptcies, work closely with attorneys to assist in preparing other miscellaneous pleadings such as objections to confirmation, reviewing hearing results, order preparation, and other duties as needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for referring Motions for Relief
    • Including but not limited to
      • Gathering information needed to assist in preparing the Motion including Loan Documents and system of record screen shots
      • Monitor progress of prepared Motions and Orders in order to meet SLAs
      • Monitor steps in Client system
  • Responsible for direct communication with clients and attorneys via all applicable means.
  • Responsible for Review/Validation of prepared Motions and Orders
    • Including but not limited to
      • Review the prepared the motion for relief, motion to annul and statement of default
      • Review 13 Post-petition payment histories for the Chapter 13 Motion for relief.
      • Review client histories and trustee ledgers for payment discrepancies
      • Review prepared orders for approval

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job does not require the exercise of supervisory responsibilities

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • A High School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred
  • 1-3 years of related experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities; Contributes to building a positive team spirit.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and attention to detail; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Organized and has the ability to change direction quickly.
  • Must be proficient in software tools including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Adaptable to change.
