Overall Responsibilities:
The Operations Manager oversees all aspects of production tooling preparation, maintenance, fabrication, and upgrades by performing the following duties within the facility while under the direction of the Mold Shop Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Liaison between Tooling Design, Tooling Program Manager, Corporate Mold Shop, local tooling vendors, and Production.
  • Coordinates Mold Shop efforts to meet the needs of production.
  • Facilitates resolution of tooling design issues as it relates to tool fabrication or production processes.
  • Formulates Mold Shop schedule, sets priorities and conveys delivery dates to the Production Planning Department.
  • Establishes production tooling costs and budgets. Generates Capital Requisitions for tooling projects.
  • Researches new equipment and justifies purchase.
  • Champions departmental continuous improvement activities.
  • Generates purchase requests for the ordering of raw materials, tools, supplies, etc.
  • Monitors and coordinates preventative maintenance and repair of all Mold Shop equipment and production tooling.
  • Identifies Mold Shop staffing levels and Mold Shop employee training needs and coordinates staffing changes and training to keep the Mold Shop running efficiently.
  • Ensures company’s compliance with appropriate governmental regulatory requirements and promotes affirmative action compliance.
Characteristics and skills:
  • Proven expertise as a Mold Shop Supervisor or Manager
  • Hands-on experience using design and calculation software
  • Ability to operate related office equipment, such as computers and copiers.
  • Ability to work independently and in a demanding environment.
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Educational and other requirements:
  • 8-10 years minimum experience in a mold shop environment
  • Good administrative, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of individuals
  • Familiar with quality systems and quality requirements
  • Six Sigma experience highly desirable
  • Experience with lean principles (5S, kaizen, value stream mapping, demand flow etc.)
  • Good mechanical, analytical, and technical skills.
  • A true “collaborative” leader that embraces the idea that he/she is the “go-to” person.
