We are a high complexity anatomic pathology laboratory in search of a very reliable and dependable laboratory technical specialist with strong interpersonal and organizational skills capable of multi-tasking and functioning independently in team-oriented environment. A high degree of accuracy is required, as well as efficiency, thoroughness, adaptability, reliability and integrity. Our quality-driven laboratory meets rigorous quality standards set forth by Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Safety officer, can provide safety management, monitoring, and reporting in the lab.
  • CAP (College of American Pathologist) Coordinator, assist with CAP accreditation and ensure that items on accreditation checklist are worked on daily, could include Quality Assurance/Control Review, Competency Assessment, and etc.
  • Perform activities involved in preparation of surgical specimens for histological processing, according to policies and procedures.
  • Assure appropriate specimen labeling to maintain integrity of specimen and patient identification; routinely checks and verifies case numbers match containers and blocks.
  • Perform gross examination and description of surgical specimens, using appropriate codes, and submits tissue sections for microscopic examination; orders stains per protocol.
  • Process cytology specimens and prepare cell samples by applying special staining techniques;
  • Provide technical support in histology laboratory: slide labeling; routine H&E staining; slide cover slipping; tissue processing.
  • Perform special histology and immunohistochemical stains using automated stainers.
  • Resolve routine questions and problems, refers more complex issues to higher levels.
  • Provide administrative support functionality tasks of Laboratory Information System and other applications to include specimen entry tasks, inquiry tasks, related management reporting and quality control.
  • Maintain accurate filing of paraffin blocks and slides for later retrieval.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain documentation procedures that are required to insure quality and continuity of laboratory work.
  • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols.
  • Adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies and documents all quality control activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.
  • Assist as needed to perform other related duties and special projects as required.
  • Position provides an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of histotechnology, embedding tissue and preparing tissue slides for examination by pathologists, and to eventually function as a histotechnologist.

Daily work schedule: Monday- Friday 2:00-10:30pm daily (30 min unpaid lunch), looking for someone who is flexible in work schedule, work can be morning / evening shift if needed.

Required education: Qualified applicant must have an Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training; or Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in medical laboratory technology, clinical pathology, chemical, physical or biological from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: at least one year of related experience and/or training, preferred but not required.

Salary: Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected.
