SUMMARY: The Junior Data Analyst fills an important role within the Information Technology Department performs various functions, including data collection and analysis to identify useful trends and provide management with relevant information. This role reports to the Director of Information Technology and works with all levels of staff throughout the agency.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide data analytics
  • Development of reporting needs of management
  • Aide in fulfilling all state reporting requirements
  • Utilize historical data sets and planned product changes to model and forecast business trends
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting on department initiatives and status reports
  • Aide in analyze the agency’s operations for trends to support decisions
  • Utilize multiple reporting systems to carry out statistical analysis and ad hoc reporting as required
  • Provide support with technical writing and editing as required
  • Develop analytics to identify trend lines across several data sources within the organization
  • Assist in examining and evaluating existing business practices and systems, and proffer suggestions aimed at creating efficiency and streamlining operations, while maintaining or increasing compliance rates
  • Apply predictive analysis and tools to forecast and employ business analytics (including an enhanced ability to quantify and qualify data)
  • Undertake operational research to identify and recommend optimal/near-optimal solutions to complex challenges.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to the Information Technology Director
  • Work closely with the Data Analyst
  • The Junior Data Analyst frequently interacts with the executive level management, all members of the senior management team, the HR team, coordinators and supervisors, and all other employees. This position is focused on customer service and satisfaction.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience and training in software development or data analysis.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to listen effectively. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective presentations to senior management and groups of employees.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to understand complex statistical operations used in data collection and reporting, research and quality management.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulae, scientific equations, graphs, etc.). Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

A valid driver’s license or the ability to travel quickly from location to location.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Experience in informatics or business analysis, highly preferred. Experience with the State of Vermont’s reporting processes also a plus. Specific knowledge of Windows, Windows server operating systems, networks and PCs.
