Barr Information Specialist

St. Louis Public Library

In this role you will:

• Assist customers with daily operations including circulation, using library equipment, and answering questions
• Pull and process Daily Holds reports for Adult materials
• Provide technology assistance to customers, as needed.
• Assist with programming as needed.
• Act as Person in Charge when the manager is not available. This includes opening and closing the building, responding to emergencies, and operating the branch as needed.

• Able to see the big picture and promote consistency and excellence of service.
• Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from customers and staff
• Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.

• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.

You will need to have:

• Two years of library related experience, or an associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
• Strong communication, writing, and speaking skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Comfortable with using and learning new technology as the Library continues to evolve.

Hours for this position are:

Mondays 11:15-8:15, Tuesdays -Thursdays 9:15-6:15, alternating Fridays & Saturdays 8:45-5:15, work one Sunday per quarter 12:45-5:15. Hours subject to change.

• Opened September 17, 1906
• First Carnegie Library built at SLPL
• Historic building renovated in 1996
• Creative Experience, a digital makerspace with 3D printers, large-format printing, a recording room, virtual reality and more, was added in 2020
