Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the evaluation of chemical, physical, and biological hazards in the workplace to ensure team member safety and health is not compromised and work operations are maintained compliant with regulatory safety and health requirements. Position involves conducting related monitoring, analyzing/interpretation of monitored data, development and recommendation of control measures; developing written compliance and training programs, conducting training in health, safety and environmental concerns, use of personal protective equipment and ensuring requisite documentation is maintained.
Responsibilities:

Essential Functions
  • Develops and coordinates major components of an Industrial Hygiene Program including, but not limited to, chemical hygiene, respiratory protection, noise, occupational exposure, indoor environmental quality, asbestos and surveillance of exposures to hazardous materials.
  • Develops and maintains written policies and procedures associated with an Industrial Hygiene Program, to include response, mitigation and recovery protocols for IAQ concerns identified by team members or others.
  • Designs, conducts and coordinates environmental, health and safety (EHS) audits of facilities and processes to identify team member(s) chemical, biological and physical hazard exposure(s) which may affect occupant(s) health and safety or pose a regulatory compliance issue.
  • Develops sampling plans and calibrates and uses measurement equipment (such as air sampling pumps, sound level meters, noise dosimeters, etc.) to quantitatively evaluate occupational hazards.
  • Collects information on work environments and conditions using a variety of data collection methods (subjective assessments, work observation, physical monitoring or sampling).
  • Prepares written technical reports covering audit/evaluation findings, data interpretation and proposed recommendations to mitigate/control any identified hazards and achieve compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Partners with Occupational Health to develop and manage EHS programs which require medical surveillance/monitoring.
  • Investigates team member exposure to hazardous materials and wastes.
  • Supports Facility Development and Engineering compliance with EHS related requirements by participating in project(s) planning and design review(s), to include, but not limited to, policies governing construction or renovation projects and specifications development for systems attributing to the management of healthy indoor environments and product selection.
  • Collaborates with Infection Prevention and Control, Regulatory and Risk Management departments to ensure consistent communications and transparency.
  • Supports development and presentation of EHS training programs.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for assigned EHS programs and supports development, administration and interpretation of such programs, rules and procedures.
  • Maintains and calibrates industrial hygiene monitoring equipment per the manufacturer’s recommendations and industry standards. Coordinates the purchase and distribution of industrial hygiene materials and equipment.
  • Manages work assignments for internal partners along with outsourced resources efficiently to ensure compliance with timelines and maintain work product accuracy.
  • Maintains proficiency in use of equipment and instrumentation for assessing noise, toxic substances, and harmful physical agents.
  • Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Works cooperatively with team members and leadership to optimize delivery of EHS services.
  • Act as liaison with local, state and federal regulatory agencies during routine inspections or as part of a regulatory agency inquiry.
  • Maintains proficiency using computer software programs essential to efficient, accurate and professional management of position responsibilities.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
  • Mentors and promotes professional development of EHS Specialists within the Corporate Safety Department.
  • Maintains professional discipline in the departments and adherence to appropriate policies and procedures of the department.
  • Stays informed of evolving technology, new standards and regulations related to safety and makes appropriate recommendations to implement improvements.

Qualifications:

Education/Training
Bachelor degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, Chemistry, or related technical field.
Licensure/Certification
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is required.
Experience
Five (5) years professional industrial hygiene experience. Familiar with federal and state of Florida EHS regulations (inc. OSHA, EPA).
