Summary: The Employment Specialist serves a key role in being responsible for the
orientation and onboarding of new hires. The specialist manages the full range of the employment process, including posting vacant positions via the applicant tracking system (Paycor) and monitoring to completion the hiring process. This position provides advice in the appropriate recruitment strategy and ensuring a diverse pool of candidates. The Specialist is responsible for activities surrounding the onboarding process, i.e, ensures effective orientation to the College, coordinates new hire lunches and tours, provides direction to supervisors to ensure new hire needs are being met and appropriate training is provided. Responsible for the follow-up surveys and taking any necessary action based on feedback obtained. Works closely with supervisors to ensure retention of employees.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Primary contact and think partner on recruiting strategy for open positions
  • Responsible for determining recruiting sources and tracking metrics of those sources
  • Responsible for pre-screening applicants to ensure the minimum requirements are met
  • Works directly with managers to assist in setting up interviews and performing initial phone screens
  • Coordinates all the necessary hiring paperwork for successful onboarding
  • Acts as the director of first impressions
  • Daily office support tasks include greeting visitors, answering common HR questions for employees, filing paperwork in employee files, answering phones, opening mail, operating office equipment, and maintaining office supplies
  • Processes payroll, background checks and paperwork for new hires and terminations, assists with open enrollment
  • Certified to E-Verify I-9 forms and stays current on regulations
  • Inputs and maintains employee information, terms and changes in HR and payroll systems, accounting systems
  • Processes employment applications and resumes, maintains applicant files and materials
  • Posts job advertisements on Jewell’s website using common web-content management software and on other job sources as requested
  • Prepares the Human Resources report for The View from the Hill publication
  • Assists with the creation and distribution of ID cards
  • Works closely with the student workers on projects.
  • Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Associates Degree or two years of relevant experience or combination of education and experience
Human resources experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to withstand pressure of competing priorities and deadlines as well as varied responsibilities.
  • Effective verbal and written skills are required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of relevant employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to Americans with Disabilities Act, E-Verify Employment Eligibility verification, and federal and state labor laws.
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • The ability to work independently and make sound decisions is required.
  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
