The Human Resources Generalist assists with all areas of the human resources function including staffing, compensation, benefits, training, employee relations, payroll, and compliance. This position supports the human resources programs and policies that support company initiatives, helps shape the company culture and value alignment, and positively engages the workforce. To be successful, the Human Resources Generalist will need to independently maintain systems and processes and provide direct support to the Senior Human Resources Manager.

This position is a full-time salaried, exempt position and reports to the Senior HR Manager. The compensation for this position ranges from $55,000-$70,000 per year, depending on experience. This position is based in Portland, OR, with some opportunity for hybrid work on occasion.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

HR and Office Administration Duties

  • Provide full cycle recruiting support by partnering with the Senior HR Manager to understand and execute the organizational talent management process
  • Process payroll changes and updates accurately and on time including new hires, terminations, changes to pay rates and deductions or garnishments; assist with updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures
  • Perform administrative duties as they relate to the employee life cycle, such as phone screens, exit interviews, performance reviews, engagement surveys, etc.
  • Maintain learning, development, and training programs and initiatives; assist with planning the annual retreat, monthly manager training, and employee onboarding
  • Manage day-to-day benefits administration and improvement of programs by analyzing trends, to include researching and proposing competitive benefits programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent
  • Update and administer organizational policies, processes, and procedures
  • Ensure legal compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance
  • Assist with performance management programs
  • Respond to general employee inquiries and concerns in a timely manner
  • Manage and maintain the tidiness and organization of our office spaces

Participate in Development of Department Strategy

  • Along with HR Manager, plan and implement strategic objectives that fulfill the mission and the goals of the department efficiently and effectively in collaboration with leadership team
  • Evaluate, improve, and report the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance profitability and qualitative results
  • Establish, maintain, and prepare reports for HR Manager
  • Engage in effective feedback systems to monitor and communicate operational and strategic alignment with interdepartmental objectives

Performs other related duties and projects as assigned


MUST HAVE

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SPHR highly desired
  • 2-5 years of experience of progressively responsible HR experience

Skills

  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Working knowledge of compliance related laws and regulations
  • Proficient understanding of project management fundamentals
  • Advanced writing and documentation experience with demonstrated success in strategic messaging
  • Advanced expertise in excel and analytical analysis and reporting

Abilities

  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Proficient presentation and public speaking
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Superior time management skills with a proven ability to efficiently manage multiple, concurrent, time-sensitive projects and priorities
  • Superior problem-solving abilities to meet ambiguous and multicultural needs
  • Extremely organized with meticulous attention to detail

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Regular in-person interaction with employees on a regular basis
  • Ability to travel to different office locations (primarily within Portland, but other states on occasion)

  • Experience in the outdoor, retail, or apparel industries
