Department: Immunohistochemistry - 362
Primary Purpose:
Histotechnologists ($26.40 per hour minimum) provide services of a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Perform routine and complex laboratory tests in an assigned department of the anatomic pathology laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results. Works under the direction of Specialist and/or Laboratory Supervisor.
Minimum Requirements: HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification
Histotechnician Trainee ($19.93 per hour minimum) is a training position, preparing the employee to work independently to further gain ASCP certification within one year. The trainee provides services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the histology laboratory. Works under the direction of a Technical Specialist (minimum certification—HT ASCP) or anatomic pathologist. Duties include performance of all aspects of a technical nature in the histology lab for which documented training and competency has been established.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Educationally eligible for HT (ASCP) Certification:
At least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of relevant biology and chemistry, or Associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of relevant biology and chemistry
After hire, must work for one year under the direction of a certified histotechnician or histotechnologist.

Physical and Other Requirements:
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
Color Vision: Perception of and ability to distinguish color.
