Summary: The GoodWorks Guide is an energetic, enthusiastic, and integral member of Southern Oregon Goodwills Retail and Operations Division and supports the organizations mission to enable employment by providing opportunities for personal and professional growth. The position is responsible for ensuring the organizations workforce has an impactful and successful onboarding and training experience that supports their long-term success with the organization.


Standards of Performance:

  • Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principals of safety, loss prevention and risk management for self and others into daily activities and ensures participation in Goodwill safety programs. Attends required safety training and participated in safety drills and exercises. Ensures tools and equipment are always in good working order and uses equipment safely.
  • Consistently maintains acceptable level of productivity.
  • Requires punctual and regular attendance. Time away from work is approved and taken in accordance with established policies.
  • Performs job duties in a prompt, thorough and acceptable manner. Performs duties in a manner that reflects Goodwills mission and ethics, and in accordance with Goodwill policies, procedures, CARF standards, and generally accepted best business practices.
  • Works cooperatively across all levels of the organization as well as with persons served, external partners, and community members.
  • Shows respect and sensitivity for those navigating challenging life circumstances, including but not limited to those with barriers to employment and self-sufficiency.
  • Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Reports any incident of theft, fraud, waste, or unauthorized possession of company property.
  • Maintains utmost confidentiality in all aspects of work, including compliance with privacy policies and the HIPAA Privacy Rule; attends privacy and security training as required for the position.

  • Works as a team member to meet and exceed the divisions goals for high-quality customer service, production, retail, and operations.
  • Possess top-notch interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work well with diverse populations such as individuals with varying education, skill sets, and those experiencing challenging life circumstances.
  • Acquaints new hires and GoodWorks Interns to Goodwills mission, culture, and workplace procedures.
  • Conduct onboarding and training for new hires and interns with a goal of increased employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Scaffolds the learning and training for new employees and interns by explaining and demonstrating demonstrate the tasks, processes, and procedures required to be successful in the role and based on the departments expectations.
  • Identify job related impediments and facilitate the implementation of modifications and accommodations as needed.
  • Provides coaching and motivation to support the achievement of individuals job success.
  • Promotes and cultivates a learning and advancement philosophy through all training and development activities.
  • Continually assesses individuals skills development and trains to correct deficiencies in collaboration with Job Coach and retail / operations leadership.
  • Collaborate with the GoodWorks Coach to lower barriers to employment for employees and interns to support their achievement of job success and advancement goals.
  • Performs type of work supervised. May work a variety of shifts and locations, including weekends or evenings.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on Retail and Operations processes, procedures, and performance goals.
  • Ensures all paperwork and related activities are current, accurate and in compliance.
  • Provides input and feedback for assessments and reviews.

Education and/or Experience.

  • Experience that would lend itself to good customer service is highly desirable.
  • Two years relevant progressively responsible work experience in similar field preferred.
  • Must be proficient with Internet, Excel, Outlook, and calendaring.

Additional Information for Physical Requirements and Environment:

Medium physical demand level. Throughout the course of the workday handles and moves a large amount of materials around the worksite. Operates cash register and credit card machines, handles money transactions. Provides customer service and assists customers with unloading small items from their vehicle for donations. Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Pushes heavy wheeled carts, pallet jacks, hand trucks and other material handling equipment with loads weighing up to 250 pounds occasionally. Ability to stand and walk on hard surface floor for extended period of up to 8 hours. Ability to perform repetitive tasks for up to 8 hours. Must be able to work with others in congested areas. Ability to visually inspect merchandise to ensure that quality and product safety guidelines are being met. Ability to observe merchandise presentation, floor layout, safety and security concerns. Reaching (frequently above shoulder level), handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing is a significant part of the job. Kneels, stoops and bends when retrieving or placing items. Capable of hearing and responding to warning devices on equipment, forklifts and trucks. Ability to occasionally climb ladders. Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the operation. Work is performed indoors in a heated space. Occasionally perform work in outside weather conditions.
