THE DIVISION
The Division of Dam Safety & Floodplain Management at DCR is looking for the best and the brightest the Commonwealth has to offer! And right now we’re in need of a qualified, dynamic, motivated individual to join our team as a Program Admin Coordinator for Dam Safety and Floodplain Management.
The Division of Dam Safety and Floodplain Management has an award winning team and data tracking system that positions the division as a leader in dam safety and floodplain management. Dam safety staff work to provide for proper and safe design, construction, operation and maintenance of dams to protect public safety. The floodplain management team is charged with improving Virginia’s flood protection programs and is designated as the coordinating agency of the National Flood Insurance Program and for resilience planning efforts. Both Dam Safety and Floodplain Management, offers technical assistance and community education, coordinates with other state and federal agencies, and receives and provides grant funding through federal and state sources.
The Dam Safety and Floodplain Management team has a mission to protect the lives and property of the Commonwealth’s citizens from natural and manmade flooding through the implementation and administration of Virginia Dam Safety Act (§ 10.1-604 et seq.) and Impounding Structure Regulations (4VAC50-20).
THE OPPORTUNITY
This position provides primary support to the Resilience Program Manager in the research, development and implementation of the Coastal Resilience Master Plan, Virginia Flood Protection Master Plan, the Community Outreach and Engagement Plan and other resilience planning efforts. This position provides contractual and administrative support for the resilience team. This position, stationed in Richmond, Virginia will provide support to all areas of Virginia. In the role, the selected candidate will:
  • Fulfill the agency’s mission to protect lives and property
  • Participate in public engagement with state, local, federal and community partners and is a critical team player in the delivery of relevant training, technical assistance, outreach and education awareness messaging across the Commonwealth
  • Assist with developing of RFP requirements, meetings, monitoring deliverables and tracking completion.
  • Assist Resilience Program Manager with the review and update of projects and funding opportunities database.
  • Prepare correspondence and perform administrative activities necessary to assist in the resiliency program administration. Organize and facilitate meetings that may include localities, advisory committees, and the public including presentation support, taking minutes and providing written reports of meeting activities/actions.
  • Assist with travel planning and coordination.

Minimum Qualifications
  • General working knowledge of office business management practices or work history which demonstrates experience supporting administrative processes and ability to organize, evaluate, and handle high volume, fast-paced business operations workflow.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including considerable experience drafting, formatting, and editing documents and ensuring grammatical correctness.
  • Ability to coordinate meetings or events, and assist with development and delivery of presentations.
  • Work experience which demonstrates proficiency in GIS, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation systems/software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience managing, compiling, and maintaining electronic records, reports, spreadsheets, logs and files to maintain document flow and record keeping.

Overnight travel occasionally required. Valid Driver’s license required.
