About the position:

A very exciting opportunity is now available for a Front Desk Receptionist to join the Columbia University Fertility Center! As the face of the practice, the Front Desk Receptionists are highly valued members of the team, working alongside clinical staff to provide quality and compassionate patient care. The Front-Desk Receptionists perform a variety of administrative duties including scheduling support, checking patients in/out and ensuring a seamless patient flow throughout the day.

Please note this is a temp to perm opportunity. Permanent position is an hourly position through the Service Corporation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Warmly greet and assist patients both in person and by phone.
  • Completes patient admissions and registration process by reviewing accounts and other compliance-related documents for completeness and accuracy. Obtains and documents missing information required for registration.
  • Inputs patient registration information in the computer system which may include gathering demographic information, inputting insurance information, and assigning guarantor accounts.
  • Schedules new and existing patient appointments and contacts patients for rescheduling, missed appointments and appointment reminders.
  • Notifies patients of co-pays, deductibles, co-insurances, and balances on accounts and collects payments, as appropriate.
  • Reconciles cash against daily charge reports.
  • Prepares paperwork for patient visits.
  • Communicates with patients in a confidential, professional manner using tact and diplomacy.
  • Monitors patient flow, adjusts workflows, and notifies the clinical staff of any pertinent information and changes.
  • Answers telephones then screens and directs patients to the appropriate person
  • Acts as non-clinical resource for patients seeking information and support with infertility by offering practice approved bibliographies.
  • Prepares regular reports regarding the number of inquiries, scheduled appointments, kept appointments, cancellations and no-shows and system of care issues requiring attention by the Medical & Lab Director and/or clinical team.

Schedule: Thursday- Monday 7am-4pm (consecutive weekends and rotating holiday coverage)

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • At least two years’ experience working in a medical office preferred.
  • At least one year of customer-service experience preferred.
