ODNR owns and manages state parks, state forests, state nature preserves and wildlife areas. We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

We are accepting applications for a Fish Management Technician within the Division of Wildlife, headquartered at Senecaville Fish Hatchery, assigned to Guernsey county. What you will do…

  • Propagate and care for warm-, cool-, and cold-water fish to stock in public waters
  • Perform facility and grounds maintenance
  • Monitor fish health and use chemicals for disease treatments
  • Assist with public outreach events and facility tours
  • Operate heavy machinery and vehicles

Qualifications

Completion of associate core program in fisheries science to include 1 course in chemistry; valid driver's license.

  • Or 24 mos. exp. conducting fish management surveys, data collection, operating fish sampling equipment & implementing fish management strategies; valid driver's license.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.


Knowledge of inventory control; safety practices (use of respirator, goggles, vehicle operation); public relations; agency policies and procedures (department, division)*; government structure and process (local, state, federal)*; natural sciences (knowledge of fish propagation techniques & hatchery operations, fish management practices, general biology, general chemistry & zoology). Skilled in word processing (Microsoft office: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Powerpoint); equipment operations (personal computer, general office equipment, all types of fish sampling/collecting nets & seines, water sampling equipment, pumps & sprayers, automobile, pick-up truck & towing trailers, fish hauling truck, welder, power tools, hand tools, tractors & mowers). Ability to deal with problems involving few variables in familiar context; apply principles to solve practical, everyday problems; interpret variety of instructions in written, oral picture or schedule form; comprehend & record figures accurately; recognize safety warnings; maintain accurate records; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; demonstrate strength to lift up to 50 lbs. (e.g., equipment, bags of fertilizer, nets, fish stocking tanks, generators, fish feed, nets of fish).
