Constellation Service Company seeks a Director of Finance to become part of a successful team and take lead responsibility for an accounting department that supports affiliate business units within a growing construction organization. This position is based in Topeka, Kansas. This position is for candidates who can effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for development of financial statements, evaluate and optimize accounting and internal control systems and processes, while leading, training, and developing departmental staff. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all activities of the finance department and delegate assignments to the appropriate function, such as accounts payable, procurement, treasury, billings & collections, and payroll
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and adhere to established deadlines
  • Consistent communication with affiliate business units to develop positive relationships that lead to proactive identification and resolution of concerns
  • Work closely with executive management to ensure that finance operations across the organization are efficient and effective
  • Primarily responsible for month-end and year-end closing of consolidated income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
  • Provide financial reports to executive management and the business unit leaders each month
  • Create and monitor the annual budget and forecasting processes across the organization
  • Continually improve accounting and internal control systems and processes to minimize risk
  • Serve as the key liaison with the company’s external auditor
  • Monitor the company’s key performance indicators and proactively address identified issues
  • Merger and acquisition support including valuation analysis, accounting considerations and due diligence review
  • Lead and implement finance department initiatives, and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation phases, as needed
  • Implement training and development programs for finance department staff
  • Willingness to accept and act on tasks beyond formal job responsibilities while displaying excellent problem-solving skills and use of logic

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree, Accounting or Finance
  • CPA required; MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Construction accounting experience a plus, but not required
  • Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
  • Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment preferred
  • Experience with reporting for multiple locations
  • Well-founded grasp of consolidated financial statements
  • Solid understanding of financial statement preparation, with proficiency in month end closings
  • Foundational knowledge in supervisory oversight and staff training and development
  • Strong communication and social skills with demonstrated ability to communicate financial information to all levels of the organization, both orally and through presentation format
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines
  • Demonstrate analytical abilities to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes
  • Microsoft Excel - Advanced proficiency

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
