The Fastener Engineer is responsible to work with the Design Release Engineers on joint development and proper fastener method selection.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Joint Development with DRE for proper fastener selection including required coating to meet corrosion and durability requirements.
  • Review and approve overall Joint Designs with fastener team and DRE’s
  • Review and approve fastener usage and torque requirements and serviceability
  • Drive commonization of fastener usage across car platforms – Cost Savings and BoM Complexity reduction in part numbers for plant
  • Release fasteners as required by engineering teams into PLM and Catia
  • Obtain fasteners, drawings, cad data and samples as required
  • Lead fastener Test validation on each joint and develop recommended torque and clamp load requirements.
  • Recommend torque for production assembly and assure it is in released in PAD drawings.
  • Attend design, packaging and change control meetings as required. Keep management aware of any all issues regarding fasteners
  • Work with fastener suppliers for improvements, new technology and cascade information to D&R engineers
  • Travel is required to Assembly Plant in Lordstown Ohio & supply base to support engineering builds and production launch
  • Work with assembly plant on production tooling for torque, validation and review joint data and participate in plant torque validation/certification program
  • Ability to work longer hours if required to meet deadlines and/or resolve issues
  • Create Best Practices for Fastener Usage at LMC
  • Support purchasing on sourcing of fasteners
  • Maintain Fastener Selection Catalog to accommodate new programs
  • Development of LTM approved fastener finishes – Ok to Use List, reduce coatings used
  • Review testing data and recommend new torque strategies
  • Approve all fastener deviations
  • Work on continuous engineering, quality improvements and VAVE.
  • Lead warranty issues related to joints and fasteners
Requirements:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, preferred Master Engineering.
  • 5+ years’ experience in automotive OEM, Tier I or fastener supplier
  • Experience in product development and manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, CATIA and fastener testing, project management
  • Knowledge of automotive joint technology, Manufacturing Processes & Tooling
  • Self-starter and team player
  • Broad knowledge of vehicle systems (including powertrain, chassis, electrical, thermal, exteriors, & interiors) & relative components and fasteners ideal Tools and Equipment
  • Proficient with hand and power tools
  • Proficient in CAD Catia V5 & Team Center
  • Proficient with desktop software (including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
