This position is located at Green Rock Correctional Center in the town of Chatham in Pittsylvania County.

The position supports Agribusiness Operations at Green Rock Correctional Center. Contributes to the agency’s mission to provide the most efficient and modern processing operation possible while maintaining offender custody and public safety at Green Rock Agribusiness Operations by providing fresh vegetables to food service while also offering training to offenders. Position provides quality agricultural supplementary services while maintaining offender custody and public safety.

This position is a part of the DOC Agribusiness program designed to provide training for offenders while lowering the offender food cost of the department. Primary duties of this position is to train and supervise offender labor in all aspects of vegetable production. Assists with livestock operations. Provides a safe and secure work environment. Provides general maintenance to all areas of the agribusiness operations. Assists other Agribusiness operations as needed. As part of the Re-entry Program, this training provides tangible skills to offenders that prepare them for a successful return to the workforce and society.

This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12 month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. Experience may substitute for formal education. Knowledge of farming and agriculture production is required. Ability to follow directions and supervise others in all aspects of modern vegetable growing techniques and technology. Skilled in the safe operation of equipment.

Preferred Qualifications
Prefer knowledge of the use of commercial pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. Prefer Commercial Pesticide Applicator license or the ability to obtain within 1 year of employment. Commercial Drivers License ( Class A).

Special Requirements
