Seniors and adults with disabilities who are physically, mentally, and socially engaged stay healthier and live independently longer. At DayBreak we strive to build an inclusive, welcoming and supportive community of care for older adults, people with disabilities and their family caregivers, who wish to stay at home in their community while aging. ​

Located in Alameda County, DayBreak is dedicated to expanding the awareness, availability and quality of adult community-based services through outreach and advocacy, community partnerships and quality program development and support. Through our programs and community partners, we help seniors and adults with disabilities continue to live at home by providing a welcoming community that fosters health and wellness - and supports families and caregivers. DayBreak has experienced rapid growth and innovation. The Scan Foundation recognized DayBreak with an Innovation Award in 2020, and DayBreak was the 2021 runner-up for the John A. Hartford Foundation Business Innovation Award. The fiscal year budget is over $1m. The majority of funding is through multi-year government contracts, with some innovations and partnerships funded by large grants.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

DayBreak is searching for a dynamic Executive Director to manage and maintain their successful, multifaceted non-profit organization effectively. The qualified candidate will maintain innovation, partnership and collaboration in the Care Coordination and Family Caregiver Support programs. With offices located in San Leandro, CA this position will be a hybrid of remote and on-site work.

Position Responsibilities:

Leadership & Operations

  • Maintain a positive tone and focus for the organization to ensure morale, teamwork, and a positive work culture
  • Provide an environment for communication to ensure coordination and collaboration in meeting organization and individual goals
  • Direct and supervise the day-to-day operations of DayBreak, in conjunction with the support of key management staff
  • Effectively supervise and manage direct reports and provide, by example and leadership, motivation, and direction to employees of the organization
  • Ensure the development and implementation of effective personnel practices including hiring, training, performance appraisal, compliance and team building
  • Provide leadership in hiring of DayBreak staff, including determining qualifications, competence, and performance expectations; planning, implementing, and monitoring staffing plans; and ensuring that orientation/training and continuing education are provided
  • Ensure that issues are brought to the attention of the Board appropriately and the Board is kept informed on key performance aspects of the agency
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of vendor/consultant contracts
  • Oversee assessment of operational efficiencies and coordinate improvements, as identified

Communications

  • Develop multi-pronged organizational communications plan, including marketing and social media, community and donor outreach, and internal employee engagement strategies
  • Maintain ongoing, positive communication with current partnerships in support of the Care Coordination and Family Caregiver Support programs, including but not limited to:

Care Coordination

  • Alameda County Adult Protective Services
  • CAL OES
  • Kaiser Permanente
  • Alameda County EMS
  • St. Rose Hospital
  • Fire departments in Alameda County
  • Other community-based partner providers

Family Caregiver Support

  • The Stupski Foundation
  • Institute on Aging
  • Beth Eden Baptist Church
  • Alameda County Area Agency on Aging
  • Other community-based partner providers
  • Represent DayBreak in the community to increase its visibility, educate families and caregivers, strengthen the DayBreak brand and serve as the chief spokesperson and advocate for DayBreak
  • Cultivate and maintain key stakeholder engagement to facilitate positive relationships and collaboration with local CBOs, healthcare providers, government agencies, businesses, elected officials and community groups

Fundraising & Partnerships

  • Develop, grow and maintain a donor database
  • Maintain and manage grants, including monitoring grant deliverables and ensuring compliance with funding requirements
  • Proactively build relationships with new, existing, and past donors; seek new funding by cultivating, stewarding and soliciting leads.
  • In collaboration with program leads, write and/or submit grant proposals as needed
  • Generate financial reports and progress reports for funding agencies as needed or required
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with government agencies that are funding DayBreak’s programs
  • Ensure staff are delivering programmatic excellence and adhering to programmatic and organization timelines

Finance

  • Ensure the accurate and timely management of fiscal operations; develop, monitor, and control the budget including operational costs
  • Is responsible for the financial performance of DayBreak such that it meets or exceeds the annual budget
  • Build DayBreak’s annual budget and prepare financial reports for the Board of Directors to approve
  • Manage bookkeeper and accounting consultant, and oversee monthly financials

Program Development

  • Keep up to date on national and local trends impacting DayBreak programs and care delivery for older adults
  • Ensure that services are provided in a manner that shows respect for staff and clients based on the highest principles of customer service
  • Monitor and evaluate the results of program operations against established objectives, quality assurance/service standards and budget/other financial criteria and reports and submit performance plans to the Board of Directors.
  • Develop new program models as needed, including anticipated timelines, deliverables, project budget, financial projections, and overall impact of the program.

  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from varying cultural backgrounds
  • Identify pertinent policy and operational issues; develop strategies, solutions, and recommendations
  • Motivate and lead various participants at all levels in the organization
  • Effectively utilize computer and software tools
  • Effectively set up new systems simultaneously and in a timely manner, with a strong attention to detail

Experience & Education:

  • Minimum of 3- 5 years of senior leadership role in related field
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred
  • Experience with and an understanding of how to work with a board of directors
  • Experience working within a nonprofit or public health environment, preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities to facilitate effective and efficient operations and support effective relationships with external agencies and organizations
  • Strong writing, analytical and oral presentation skills
  • Experience with program development, strongly preferred
  • Experience with budget planning and management
  • Experience with grants management
  • Experience with fundraising and/or donor cultivation, strongly preferred

Knowledge of:

  • Culture and needs of the socially and ethnically diverse population served by DayBreak
  • Community-based organizations, agencies, and community services
  • Techniques of program and policy development, administration and coordination
  • Healthcare environments
  • Regulatory policies, rules and regulations

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $140,000.00 per year
