Position: Center Director

Supervisor: Administrative Coordinator

Classification: Non-exempt

Position Summary:

Responsible for implementing the established policy and procedures of the Commission in administering and supervising a center program and its personnel

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Supervise the care, safety and well being of all children enrolled in the center at all times

· Supervise the planning and implementation of the daily programs and activities of all children

· Understand the programming necessary for age appropriate activities for children

· Plan and maintain a center environment which is conducive to the growth and development of the children while conforming to all health and safety requirements

· Transport children on field trips and to and from the center when necessary

· Insure that all children’s transportation plans meet North Carolina licensure requirement for safety

· Further knowledge and understanding of the needs of the children by participating in staff development activities and attending conferences and workshops

· When necessary, teach a group of children and plan and carry out daily activities in coordination with other center staff

· Be knowledgeable of the community resources and agencies and what programs they have available for the center and the families it serves.

· Determine needed equipment and supplies and requisition them from their supervisor

· Responsible for meal and snack planning, supervise the serving of the meals and purchase needed supplies for snacks

· Maintain necessary records and reports concerning the operation of the center which includes: enrollment/attendance, parent fee collections, required food participation forms, daily menu forms, time sheets and travel reimbursement forms

· Obtain all necessary paperwork for licensing purposes on new staff

· Maintain all necessary records for the children enrolled in the center

· Responsible for obtaining needed substitutes

· Be knowledgeable of and adheres to the Civil Rights Compliance Act and all Southwestern Child Development Policies

· Maintain compliance with North Carolina licensing regulations as all times

· Supervise all staff that work in the center

· Establish and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, staff and the community

· Perform other duties as necessary when assigned

Education/Experience

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Child Development or related field required
  • Willingness to obtain additional education and training

The following conditions must be present:

  • Current and valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Car available for work
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Meet all North Carolina Day Care Licensing requirement
  • Obtain an approved medical statements for work

Working Conditions

Work is generally performed in a classroom setting. Working extended hours may be required as needed. The noise level is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell; perform general cleaning tasks; and, occasionally move classroom furniture. The employee must be able to lift children who weight 50+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Applicant must have a current NC Driver’s License and a car available for work. Applicant must be 18 years of age, be able to obtain an approved medical statement and meet all day care licensing requirements.
