At the University of Nebraska Foundation, we grow relationships and resources that enable the University of Nebraska to change lives and save lives. This position would provide you with the opportunity to advance the University of Nebraska through planning and implementing fundraising strategies leading to major gifts for the University of Nebraska Omaha.
As the Director of Development, you will be responsible for the identification of prospects, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors. You can expect to directly partner with deans, faculty/staff, volunteers, and Foundation staff to meet fundraising goals, execute events, and build affinity in support of philanthropic priorities. You will be responsible for collaborating with the UNO Advancement Team, as well as the university to increase donor engagement and maximize annual, major, and planned gift potential. This position will be responsible for the data management of a portfolio to ensure accurate prospect tracking.
You will join the foundation at an exciting time, with the opportunity to make a transformational impact. The foundation recently publicly announced a historic campaign to raise $3 billion from 150,000 donors to build a better future for Nebraska. The campaign is being led by more than 300 enthusiastic volunteers representing all areas of the University of Nebraska System. UNO is the University of Nebraska system’s urban campus, with a goal of $300 million and 18,000 unique donors. Substantial progress has been made toward the UNO target with more than $173 million raised from 17,000 unique donors.

  • Supports our students - In 2021-22, 1,967 UNO students received scholarships supported by donors to the University of Nebraska Foundation. In all, 3,081 scholarships were awarded, totaling $8 million. The UNO campaign seeks to raise $50 million for new scholarships. Nearly 36% of UNO’s students are the first in their families to attend a university. Half of UNO students require financial assistance.
  • Supports transformational research - Private philanthropy made it possible to double the size of the Biomechanics Research Building, adding critical space for research, machining, prototyping and education.
  • Meets Nebraska’s workforce demands - A vital expansion of the Peter Kiewit Institute is planned to provide collaborative space and peer support for information technology and engineering students. UNO is committed to educating Nebraska’s future STEM workforce.

  • What you need:*
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • A minimum 1-5 years of experience in development, fundraising, business, non-profit, higher education, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to travel based on position needs.
  • Discretion in handling confidential matters.
