SUMMARY: Lead and evolve the Distribution Data Analytics function by providing direction and thought leadership by applying advanced analytic methods using internal and external data to innovate, build, and maintain well-managed data solutions and capabilities to address business problems or deliver insights and/or recommendations that inform various business needs or strategies.

LOCATION: Nashville, TN office. BMI has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office three (3) days a week. Decisions regarding future transitions will take place in phases as BMI continues to closely monitor COVID-19 as employee safety is our priority.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Essential Functions: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

Data Governance, Business Support, and Product Development:
  • Develops and evolves a center of excellence for data, reporting and analytics across Distribution & Administration Services.
  • Develops and maintains the Analytics and Business Intelligence strategy and roadmap for the Distribution & Administration team.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of available data within the organization and serves as a central point of access to data and data analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identifies opportunities to leverage data in new ways to meet strategic objectives.
  • Maintains awareness of what applications are being used to access data across the organization; creates best practices to standardize procedures and work products.
  • Recognizes the strengths and weaknesses of various data sources; partners with business owners to recommend utilization of specific data sources that most effectively capture desired information.
  • Identifies gaps in current business models required to support new and emerging data needs for distribution.
  • Continuously assesses the scope and character of incoming requests from all business units to spot trends, predicts the organization’s future needs, and advocates for development priorities to meet those needs.
  • Partners with a cross segment of business owners to develop new reporting protocols that measure KPIs, ROIs, and other metrics as needed by each business unit.
  • Partners with IT to advise, support, and influence the development of new tools and applications combined with data management/migration activities.
  • Leverages knowledge of internal and external customer needs, along with related awareness of capability gaps that challenge the fulfillment of those needs, to articulate narratives and provide analytical support that justify IT roadmap prioritization.
  • Partners with IT to integrate prototyped data solutions across data analytics team; gather, analyze and summarize feedback on the prototypes, and define the next phase of requirements.
  • Works specifically with data professionals to explore various ways to leverage and create value with the vast amount of data which BMI has access.
  • Stays informed of marketplace developments including the emergence of new tools and technologies, and the adoption of these technologies by clients, customers, competitors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provides consultation and/or training across the Distribution & Administration team to identify opportunities to streamline activities by automating activities and/or leveraging Microsoft tools.
Analytics and Business Intelligence:
  • Manages the preparation of analysis to support affiliate acquisition and retention efforts in partnership with Legal, Creative, and Finance. This includes deal analysis, predictive analytics, catalog valuations, and recommendations. Ensures that methodologies and approaches evolve to account for changes in the marketplace.
  • Manages the analysis and business intelligence requirements to inform the various BMI Awards dinners. This includes the development and continuous improvement of methodologies based on marketplace changes, delivery of analysis, and support of all inquiries.
  • Manages the delivery of ad hoc and standardized forms of analysis and business intelligence to support the negotiation of BMI licensing deals. This includes market share and compensability studies.
  • Provides analysis or data as needed to support litigation, DOJ efforts, as well as other lobbying efforts.
  • Supports due diligence and corporative initiatives with analysis.
  • Manages the delivery of ad hoc reporting and analysis requests.
Distribution:
  • Manages the preparation of the annual distribution budget as well as the rolling quarterly distribution forecast. Works with product owners, Royalty Accounting, Licensing, and Finance to ensure appropriateness of budget and forecast.
  • Provides Finance with a quarterly cashflow analysis to support treasury activities.
  • Manages all ad hoc/offline royalty processing for BMI distributions. This includes data modeling, distribution file creation, and quality assurance.
  • Acquires, organizes, and incorporates knowledge of competitor strategies to provide more insightful comparative analysis as requested by clients and client-facing teams.
  • Manages the design and creation of complex distribution models, performs scenario testing and other forms of analysis to ensure BMIs delivery of a competitive and quality distribution.
  • Maintains understanding of the core logic and systematic interaction of all distribution-related data sources, applications, and production jobs; applies knowledge to identify redundancies, inconsistencies, or potential efficiency improvements.
  • Creates, guides, and manages the development of new quality measures in collaboration with department leaders.
Client Support:
  • Orchestrates the quarterly and annual financial calls with Publishers. This includes preparation and delivery of publisher reports as well as any other material necessary to support the discussions with the client.
  • Participates on escalated distribution calls with BMI affiliates, business managers and other stakeholders for the purpose of resolving complex distribution inquiries.
  • Provides consultation and/or support to BMI publishers that require support in maturing their income tracking practices as well as forecasting capabilities.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree required with emphasis in Finance, Economics, or similar discipline preferred. Graduate degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum five (7+) years with related experience and/or a combination of the required technical skills listed below:
  • Scripting experience
  • Modeling techniques
  • Strong experience with data in various forms (data warehouses/SQL, unstructured data environments)
  • NSII SQL experience required
  • Working experience with various BI reporting tools
Skills and Abilities: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite with an emphasis on Excel and Access.
  • Strong understanding of statistics and mathematics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in analysis, preparation and presentation of data required.
  • Demonstrated ability to explore and quickly grasp technologies, data models and business processes.
  • Understanding of BI and Data Warehouse Database Concepts.
  • Management experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with the music industry preferred.

Salary Range: The specific base salary offered to a successful applicant will be based on individual qualifications, skills, experience and education. The pay range is subject to change at any time based on various internal and external factors. The position may also be eligible for one or more performance-based bonuses.
