The Role:

The Patient Finance and Billing Associate is responsible for advising patients of their financial responsibilities and delivering exceptional customer service throughout the entire patient journey at our healthcare facility. This role serves as the primary financial point of contact for our patients, ensuring they understand their insurance coverage, benefits packages, and billing processes. Additionally, the Patient Finance and Billing Associate assists the Billing Team in coordinating and managing payment plans, collections, and insurance reimbursements. The Associate can expect their shifts to consist of phone collections, actively addressing patients' overdue balances. The successful Associate will confidently apply gentle pressure and persistence, resolving debts compassionately, accurately, and promptly.


The Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Billing Team in collecting past-due balances.
  • Dedicate approximately 80%-90% of work shifts to phone collections, proactively contacting patients to discuss and resolve past-due balances.
  • Follow up and collect insurance reimbursements issued to patients.
  • Inform patients of their financial responsibilities, billing procedures, and collections processes.
  • Collaborate with the Billing Team to establish and manage patient payment plans.
  • Help patients understand their insurance coverage and benefits packages.
  • Guide patients in interpreting communications from their insurance providers.
  • Assist patients in transitioning to new insurance plans if necessary.
  • Verify the compensating practices of patients' insurance providers.
  • Reconcile Electronic Medical Records (EMR) with billing procedures, monthly.

The Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in medical billing, patient finance, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of healthcare insurance, billing, and coding practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
  • Proficiency in SaaS platform conventions, Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word.
