The Corporate Attorney ensures that all those associated with Kumon North America, Inc. receive the highest quality legal advice in a timely, courteous and professional manner. This ensures compliance with all legal requirements, identifies and minimizes areas of risk, and makes certain that all corporate documents and records are prepared accurately and filed in a timely manner.

Requirements:

• J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 1 to 3 years of experience working in a law firm or in a corporate attorney role.
• Experience in the following areas:
• real estate, commercial lease, contract negotiations, and corporate transaction matters is preferred
• franchising is desired
• employment and immigration is a plus.
• Bilingual communication skills (Spanish) is also a plus

Core Job Responsibilities:

• Provides general legal advice to management and associates (Field and FSC/Corporate Office).
• Demonstrates knowledge and work experience in the following legal areas, including the following: real estate, commercial lease, contract negotiations, and corporate transaction matters, intellectual property, and other areas as assigned.
• Negotiates and drafts contracts, licenses and leases.
• Participates in preparation and enforcement of relevant corporate documents such as Franchise Agreement, Franchise Disclosure Document, Notices to Cure Defaults and Operations Manual.
• Monitors assigned litigated matters and serve as liaison with outside counsel.
• Assists with legal representation of two subsidiary corporations (Canada and Mexico).
• Offers educational seminars and presentations to Instructors and Associates.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
