Job Summary
  • Eastern Washington University is currently recruiting for the position of Controller. The Controller provides leadership of the university wide accounting operations. The Controller oversees that accounting operations, including revenues, expenses, endowments, property, cash flows, assets, and liabilities. Along with providing financial reporting expertise, this financial administrator also ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and fiscal policies and procedures. In management and supervision, the Controller is responsible for providing quality and efficient processes for customers through the leadership, analyses, and implementation of appropriate staffing levels. The Controller reports to the Associate Vice President Business and Finance & Chief Financial Officer.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business
  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in a large, complex organization including accounting and managerial experience
  • Leadership and managerial abilities to lead a large and complex office with integrity and develop a high-performance work team
  • Must be able to analyze and interpret complex financial data
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency and/or diversity


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Master’s degree
  • CPA
  • Extensive supervisory experience
  • Previous experience using Banner or other similar accounting system


Other Skills and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and methods, preferably with an emphasis in college or university accounting
  • Working knowledge of computer applications and information systems utilized in accounting operations
  • Ability to analyze accounting systems for proper controls and reporting capabilities
  • Ability to prepare highly complex and detailed financial reports.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers and subordinates
