Community Support Worker - Independent Contractor

MBI provides professional mental health services to over 3,000 consumers in its mental health programs. It is our goal to embrace, advocate, and empower the minds and lives of men, women, and children. Our highly experienced healthcare professionals provide premium services throughout the DC Metropolitan Area.

MBI is seeking dedicated individuals, who want to help facilitate change and growth, to work with adults and children that have serious mental illness and disabilities as community support workers/case managers. Community support workers spend at least 70% of the time in the field teaching clients the skills required to manage their disorder and succeed in their individual recovery goal. Community Support Workers support individuals in attaining meaningful, sufficient lives through the growth of the skills necessary to live independently, acquire employment, complete their education/training and have vigorous social lives.

Responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively across MBI Health Services, LLC mental health, employment, recovery, homeless, and substance use disorder programs to best coordinate people’s needs.
  • Assisting with community resources such as housing, food banks and medical care.
  • Assisting people in identifying their strengths and needs across the social determinants of health and helping them develop their personal path to their recovery goals as a result.
  • Providing psycho-educational and teaching symptom management skills to minimize the effects of symptoms of individual daily lives.
  • Helping people develop their personal support systems, knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, computer, and time management skills required
  • Previous work in the mental health field and/or social services/social work, preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Normal office conditions apply. Employees must have clear, close vision for reading and computer work. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, balance, stoop, grasp, talk, hear and operate computer keyboard. Job may require reaching at shoulder level and below waist.

Job Type: Contract

It is MBI Health Services policy to comply with D.C. Mayor Bowser's order issued on August 10, 2021, that all DC employees and DC Contract/Grant Agencies must get vaccinated.

MBI will accommodate medical and religious exemptions. More information can be provided upon application acceptance.

Education:

  • Associate (Preferred)
  • Must have a high school diploma.
  • College level coursework in Psychology or Healthcare is preferred.

Experience:

  • Caregiving: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Must have a year of direct patient/client service experience in a healthcare or social service organization. Experience as LPN, CNA, or Medical Assistant is highly desirable.
  • Must possess working knowledge of smartphone applications and basic computer skills

Required License/Certification:

  • Must have a driver's license in good standing and access to a vehicle during working hours.
  • CPR/First aid Certification'

Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • On call

Supplemental pay types:

  • Bonus pay
