Scope of Position:
The Commercial Director manages the key commercial aspects of the Joint Venture and is accountable for leading the JV through the wider Commercial landscape. This includes Commercial (revenues), Competitive Intelligence, Securing offtake contracts, New Business Development and Workforce Development.

This position is one of the leadership positions of Atlantic Shores that report directly to the Atlantic Shores CEO and has an external profile in representing Atlantic Shores to partners, politicians, trade associations, and toward other US offshore wind developers. The Commercial Director has 4 team members directly reporting into this position (and more indirectly), with some further growth envisaged in 2023+. The role also holds significant responsibilities, with the Atlantic Shores CEO, in aligning the Atlantic Shores shareholders on Commercial topics – directly and via the respective shareholder reps - to a common value-centric approach to develop the Atlantic Shores offshore wind lease.
Responsibilities:

15% - Overall JV Leadership:

  • Play an active role in JV decision making in the Atlantic Shores MT / Executive Committee.
  • Develop the existing Atlantic Shores leadership echelon to take on further responsibilities as the JV develops towards new leases, Project & Portfolio related activities in 2023+.
  • Further attract key talent to join Atlantic Shores as the JV will grow further from current level (90 FTE) to 120+ FTE in 2023, subject to bid outcomes.
  • Ensure that Board meeting topics, Advisory Committee meetings and decisions at the JV leadership level are well-prepared and thought through from a Commercial perspective, ensuring highest possible decision quality and value delivery to shareholders.

60% - Establish and lead the Joint Venture commercial strategy

  • Lead the Commercial team in pursuit of strategy as per annual Business Plan and long-term JV vision and mission.

Commercial and New Business Development

  • Develop and implement commercial strategies according to company goals and objectives aiming to accelerate growth of Atlantic Shores JV.
  • Responsible for advancing commercial optimization of the Atlantic Shores leases and projects.
  • Act as commercial resource and key negotiator to close various critical commercial agreements for Atlantic Shores (e.g. OREC, ports, fisheries or transmission partnerships).
  • Build profitable partnerships with (potential) external local business partners.
  • Further develop partnership agreements with in-state and other entities that will help Atlantic Shores be successful in winning bids and developing the overall portfolio – including Storage and Hydrogen (where relevant).
  • Investigate and deliver further OREC-compliant power trading optimizations.
  • Accountable for the commercial quality of the cross-company proposals to the joint “Pricing committee” which consists of Atlantic Shores JV board members during live Offtake auctions.
  • Responsible for Workforce Development (with a focus on NJ) and Local Content Delivery of the commitments made in Project 1, as well as for future bids.

Atlantic Shores Offtake Bids

  • Support and develop the Atlantic Shores bid strategy and bid concepts that Atlantic Shores will develop to approach the New York And New Jersey markets.
  • In collaboration with Atlantic Shores CEO and Portfolio manager lead the bid team (a cross-functional team) of Atlantic Shores experts that are developing the bid work together with our selected bid consultant.
  • Preparing for bids 15-18 months prior to offtake bids responses:
    • CAPEX of bids ranges from 3 bln (800 MW) to 7+ bln (2300 MW).
    • Annual revenue of these offtake contracts is significant
    • Ranges from:
      • 800MW ~400mln
      • 1200MW ~550mln
      • 1500MW ~700mln
      • 2300MW ~1050mln
  • Competitive Intelligence & Strategy
    • Conduct market research and set-up effective competitive intelligence gathering that enables optimal outcomes for any commercial opportunities (State RFP’s or Corporate).
    • Understand the requirements of future customers (State or Corporate) and build value propositions that enable Atlantic Shores to win – now and in the future.
    • Develop and implement winning commercial strategies, including on transmission related topics (esp post SAA outcome in New Jersey) according to company goals and objectives aiming to accelerate growth.
    • Deeply understand the US offshore wind market, the PJM and NYISO power markets, and establish ways to fully understand the competition in NJ and NY – enabling Atlantic Shores to win.

15% - Risk management

  • Consistently identifies, evaluates, and monitors project risks and develops and implements risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proposes and manages Portfolio risks assessments, risk controlling and risk reporting processes including the aggregation and selection of top risks – commercial, portfolio or otherwise –
  • to be managed and mitigated and reported on within the Atlantic Shores governance bodies.
  • Organizes and facilitates workshops to identify, categorize and quantify commercial risks in the Risks Register, and to propose / follow up on mitigation strategies.

10% - Other duties as assigned

  • Exercise financial control as key signer on internal governance documents – e.g. on third party spend prior to release.
  • Ensure record keeping and documentation management are implemented in an effective and efficient manner pursuant to JV policy as well as Project Financing requirements.

Supervision of Others:

The Commercial Director role will have up to 6 direct reports while leading a cross-functional team on specific initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or, Mathematics or Science required, CFA, CPA or other advanced certifications desirable.
  • Master’s in Business Administration strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience within wind and/or offshore industry leading high-profile projects ($250+ million value).
  • 8+ years of project engineering/project management experience and/or contract management, and/or commercial and/or equivalent experience in a matrix organization.
  • Knowledge of, and direct first-hand experience in, offshore wind and renewable project development.

  • Understanding of decision-making frameworks and ability to lead the team through complex decision-making processes
  • Outstanding interpersonal oral and written communication, presentation skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple people and teams from all types of fields of expertise
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, ability to work well with others and be a collaborative and effective team player
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Innate ability to share concise, appropriately detailed communications with multiple stakeholders
  • Understanding of JV governance and aligning shareholder to JV strategy a strong plus
  • Knowledge of risk evaluation and statistical modelling a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Office 365; MS Project application, Visio, MS Access, Word, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint

Pay Range: $165,920 to $248,870 annually

Physical Requirements:

Ability to travel to other offices and to Project sites as needed.

Working Conditions:

90% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. Approximately 10% of the time is spent in travel to attend conferences or meet with suppliers, partners, elected officials and administration or industry representatives as needed.
