Overview:
Atlantic Health System is seeking a part-time Clinical Documentation Specialist at Morristown Medical Center.

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
  • The Clinical Documentation Specialist will facilitate modifications to clinical documentation, through concurrent interactions with Physicians and other clinicians to reflect appropriate clinical severity, complications and co-morbidity.
  • The specialist shall concurrently review and evaluate selected patient's medical records for overall quality and completness.
  • Will educate physicians, non-physician clinicians, coding professionals on an ongoing basis regarding documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement issues and relevant quality and performace improvement opportunities.
  • Case Aduits Initial. Concurrent and Final.
  • Participate in Subcommittees for various Disciplines.
Qualifications:
Qualifications/Requirments:
  • Advanced understanding of anatomy, physilogy, pathophysiology and pharmacology
  • Knowledge of word processing, Excel and reporting software
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal relationship skills
  • Knowledge of CMS regulations along with DRG groupings
  • Coding skills with experience in ICD-10-CM/PCS and working knowledge of the AHA Coding Clinic (some training provided)
  • Preferred experience in EPIC, 3M and/or Iodine
Minimum Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivlanet required
  • Gradute of an accredited Nursing Program required
Education:
  • BSN preferred
License/Certifications:
  • Licensed NJ Registered Nurse required
  • CCDS or CDIP preferred
Relevant Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in the acute-care setting in: surgical, intensive care, emergency medicine strongly preferred
  • Experience working with encoder software, clinical documentation improvement software and electronic medical record preferred
  • Prior CDI experience is a plus
