Position Detail:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Commercial, the Clean Energy Portfolio Manager will be responsible for leading the commercial portfolio management efforts for the North American market across multiple technologies and projects. The position plays a key role in building and maintaining relationships with Customers, ISO's and brokers in different power markets. The Manager of Clean Energy Portfolio Management will lead the efforts to identify and implement non-traditional value creating opportunities to increase overall margins for FLP's clean energy and energy storage portfolio.

FirstLight is focused on evolving its Portfolio Management strategy to cover both its existing operating assets as well as its newer and growing pipeline of development assets, which together include hydro, storage, solar and wind technologies. This role will have a unique opportunity to develop our 24hr Real Time desk to offer our portfolio management as a commercial service. FirstLight is actively undergoing a number of expansion efforts that will require a nimble and forward-looking vision to ensure we stay at the forefront of evolving markets for renewable and energy storage projects. With this position we are seeking a driven and creative leader to help build an industry-leading clean energy portfolio management function.

This position will work closely with the Commercial, Business Development, Corporate Strategy, Finance, Regulatory and Operations teams. As a leader in the organization, the Manager of Clean Energy Portfolio Management will help lead a team committed to delivering value for our portfolio of assets.

This position does not currently supervise any direct reports, but FirstLight anticipates growth potential in the future as the company continues its current aggressive growth trajectory.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Lead efforts to identify and implement non-traditional value creating opportunities to increase overall margins for FLP's clean energy and energy storage portfolio.
  • Assist Strategy/Business Development team with asset valuations and post-acquisition/development asset integration
  • Develop and implement short-term and long-term hedging strategies for RECs and Power
  • Assist origination team in structuring and negotiating complex sales transactions, long term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with utilities and C/I customers for both FLP's existing generation portfolio and projects in development pipeline.
  • Support the optimization of relationships with procurement teams at universities, trading and origination desks, utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, and C&I off-takers
  • Maintain expert working knowledge of North American wholesale commodity market fundamentals and ISO/RTO protocols
  • Oversee reporting on market activity and performance metrics to internal/external leadership teams
  • Establish relationships with procurement, trading and origination desks at public and private utilities, Munis, coops, C&I off-takers (corporates), and marketers
  • Drive power marketing “ideas” to definitive deliverables (financial models, term sheets, contracts) and timetables for execution
  • RFP & Proposal Development - Identify RFP opportunities and originate bilateral PPA targets outside formal RFP processes
  • Act as a collaborative, collegial and engaged team member of FirstLight
  • Possess a passion for delivering innovative solutions to the challenge of moving the world to a clean energy future as fast as possible
  • Carries out other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications / Skills

  • Advanced Degree preferred
  • 5 + years of experience in Asset Management and management roles
  • Possess deep power markets expertise in ISO-NE, PJM, NYISO
  • Knowledge of and experience in over-the-counter forward markets, physical markets, and/or future markets
  • Experience working in CAlSO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, NYISO, ISO-NE, IESO (Ontario) and bilateral markets is preferred
  • Understanding of concepts including basis risk, power markets, hedging, losses, and congestion
  • Ability to build strong customer relationships across organization levels
  • Capable leader who can effectively manage others to high performance
  • A driven leader who is highly motivated and hard-working with high standards for self and others
  • Resourceful and comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
  • Knowledge of various structured markets and bilateral physical markets
Physical Requirements

  • Ability to be physically mobile (stand, walk, reach, climb, bend) and also the ability to sit for prolonged periods throughout the day/work hours
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, copier, telephone, and the ability to write and/or type
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs
