The Field Museum is a not-for-profit organization located on the Museum Campus of Chicago. Since the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, we have conducted research across all seven continents and accumulated a collection of over 40 million specimens and artifacts.


The Field Museum is searching for a Camps Program Administrator to join our team!


The Camps Program Administrator position is part of the Family Learning Experiences team in the Learning Center department of the Field Museum. The Family Learning Experiences division manages the Crown Family PlayLab, the Museum’s early childhood space, and is responsible for developing programming for children ages 2-14 years old and their families, including camps, workshops, overnights, and outreach events.


The Camps Program Administrator will be responsible for all aspects of a successful camp experience for children ages 5-14 years old, including summer camp, winter, and spring break camps, and day-long camps on school holidays. The Administrator will be responsible for the design and implementation of camp curricula, the hiring, training, and management of camp staff, and the coordination of daily operations and delivery of camp programming.


The Camps Program Administrator will be responsible for designing age-appropriate natural science and recreational activities for camp participants and have the ability to modify those activities to accommodate the learning needs of all campers. They will work within the budget for ordering and maintaining camp supplies, communicate with Marketing for advertisement of camps; work with the web team on registration and camp webpages; recruit, train, and oversee groups of adult and teen term staff to implement activities, and ensure safe practices and a healthy camp environment.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Camp Management, Recreation, and Leisure, or similar type of experience, required
  • Member of the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Related Professions and/or American Camp Association is a plus
  • The ideal Candidate must have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience developing and implementing camp curricula and demonstrate the ability to manage the day-to-day responsibilities of camp. Supervisory experience is a must
  • The Camps Program Administrator must be well-organized, self-motivated, and flexible in an ever-changing environment. Strong organizational and customer service skills are required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must
  • Professional demeanor and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders are required. Must be enthusiastic and demonstrate a passion for science and museums
  • Candidate must be able to work during academic breaks and school holidays consistently. This position requires a lot of physical activity, including long periods of walking and standing, and the ability to move at least 20 pounds of equipment. Energetic candidates are preferred
