Job Title: Specialist Support
Hours: 40-50 hours per week
Classification: Nonexempt, hourly, seasonal
Reports to: Camp Directors

Position Purpose:
All staff at Camp Kingfisher are hired to:

lead campers as a positive, caring role model

provide campers with fun, positive outdoor learning experiences

help campers grow and learn through challenges

The Specialist Support position supports all specialty areas at Camp Kingfisher. With a strong focus on the safe implementation of the following areas of camp:

Pool: for campers ranging from 4 years old to middle school.

Canoe: for campers ranging from kindergarten through 7th grade.

Archery: for campers ranging from 2nd -7th grades.

Travel Program: for campers in rising 8th and 9th grades.

Job Responsibilities:

Support program areas such as the pool, canoe ponds and archery range as directed

Substitute as a counselor as needed

Support program set up and break down daily

Maintain high standards of safety, health, and cleanliness during specialty areas

Co-Lead middle school age campers on canoeing trips on the Chattahoochee River

Assist with orientation and on-going canoeing training of camp counselors

Clean camp facilities as needed/required

Attend weekly camp staff and specialist meetings

Other Job Duties:

Lifeguard for 2-4 after-camp programs such as camper overnights

Contribute to verbal/written evaluations and communication as requested

Keeping track of and recording hours worked, requesting director’s approval for any additional hours prior to work

Develop and lead archery curriculum for 2nd -7th grade campers with excellence and enthusiasm

Interact and develop relationships with campers

Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff

Attend weekly camp staff meetings and specialist meetings

Assist in other program areas as a substitute counselor as needed: waterfront, pool, all camp activities, and arts and crafts as directed

Complete additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Current Red Cross Lifeguard certification, course provided

Current First Aid/CPR certification, course provided

Current archery safety and teaching training, course provided

Canoe Training- course provided

Proficiency & passion for operating canoes and similar watercraft, canoe instruction, experience preferred

Ability to adhere to and to enforce Camp Kingfisher’s water safety procedures

Comfortable in an outdoor setting

Experience (and passion for) teaching or working with children

Ability to adhere to and to enforce Camp Kingfisher’s water safety procedures

Background in child care, camps, prior lifeguarding, natural history, or environmental education

Willingness to work outdoors during the summer season

Must be able to lift over 20 pounds

Valid GA driver’s license
