Buyer/Procurement Engineer

Department: Purchasing

Reports to: Purchasing Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
The Buyer/Procurement Engineer reports to the Purchasing Manager and is responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the Company’s needs for direct and indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, logistics and transportation, and select production materials and services. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality, and delivery competitive levels consistent with Company policy and performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning, scheduling of receipt and inventory control of the product and services as assigned consistent with SAP requirements or as appropriately concluded with a requestor. An ability to work with minimum supervision is necessary.

Essential Functions

  • Initiates purchase orders and amendments for parts, services, and/or special tools.
  • Arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required
  • Close coordination with plant engineering to assure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities.
  • Secures and analyzes quotes.
  • Negotiates prices and terms with suppliers.
  • Recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
  • Studies market prices and trends, engineering developments and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities.
  • Advises company activities with concurrence of a Senior Buyer and/or Manager, Purchasing.
  • Coordinates the planning of recent schedules and inventory control parameters for the assigned products and services consistent with SAP requirements or as arranged with requestor.
  • Coordinates as appropriate quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers.
  • Organizes and implements with direction from a Senior Buyer and/or the Director, Purchasing, Purchasing strategies to accomplish Small Business and Disadvantaged Business Sourcing Programs consistent with company guidelines.
  • Visits supplier’s facilities to quality them as new sources assists in the resolution of Production, design, quality, and or delivery problems
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Travel

Travel is expected for this position up to 25%.

Required Education and Experience

  • B.S. Degree preferred with emphasis in Engineering, Business Administration and/or Economics
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible purchasing and materials control experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced understanding and experience with RFQ, RFI and engineering estimates within different commodities.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of mainframe operations as relates to procurement and related software.
  • Knowledge of purchasing/accounting processes required.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Computer literate

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

  • Must have valid working documents to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid passport.
