The City of Vacaville is located within Solano County. Measuring 29.09 square miles and equipped with Biotechnology and Advanced Manufacturing initiative, the City of Vacaville attracts diverse types of development to its community, from new large-scale industrial and commercial development to residential tract subdivisions, apartment communities, custom homes, and nonresidential tenant improvements.

The Building Inspector is an exciting and dynamic position. It is responsible for inspecting all types of building structures at various stages of construction for compliance with applicable Title 24 regulations, state statutes, and local regulations, and ensuring safe construction in accordance to approved plans. The Building Inspector also provides information related to the building and inspection process to the public, contractors, and builders and may assist in joint inspections with other City departments.

The City of Vacaville invites applications for the position of Building Inspector. Currently, one (1) position exists in the Community Development Department. This recruitment process will create an eligibility list for this position which can be used to fill other vacancies, within this classification, that may develop in the next twelve (12) month period.

Salary Information:
$80,007.82 - $97,249.29
A 2% COLA is scheduled for 11/1/2023

ABOUT YOU

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have:

• A background in construction, engineering, or a related field
• Familiarity with building codes and regulations
• A strong attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills and problem-solving skills
• The ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by college level coursework in construction technology, engineering, architecture, or other related field.

Experience: Three years of journey level experience in one or more of the major building construction fields such as building, electrical, or plumbing.

License or Certificate: Possession of a Building Inspector or Combination Inspector Certificate issued by the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), or other recognized agency, is a condition of passing probation.

Possession of a valid Class C or higher California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
