Job Overview
The Bookkeeper is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate accounting records for real estate operating properties, analyzing the information presented in financial statements, and supporting the reporting process. The Bookkeeper will support the month-end closing process, cash flow, full cycle of accounts payable and accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, financial statements, and audits.
Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate accounting, invoicing, loan draws, and supporting schedules for properties.
  • Prepare annual projections and detailed budgets of property performance.
  • Manage real estate tax records via Yardi and create and file quarterly payments.
  • Prepare subcontractor 1099's, and any other IRS year-end requirement.
  • Maintain books and records for properties in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist with monthly accounting close and annual year-end processes assigned.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business-related field preferred.
  • 5+years of property accounting experience; quality experience with the month-end closing process, cash reconciliations, journal entries, and financial audit support preferred; experience with federal grant compliance is a plus.
  • Proven knowledge of general ledger, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and in Yardi Breeze or other property management software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and vendor management skills.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments efficiently and work in a dynamic deadline-driven environment.
  • COVID-19 Vaccine Required: As of the first day of employment, you must be able to demonstrate proof that you are fully vaccinated (as defined by the CDC) against COVID-19, unless you are granted a medical or religious exemption in accordance with company policy.

Work Location

In the short term, because of COVID-related precautions implemented by NJCC, this position is required to work in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. It is incumbent that the candidate has a sufficient home workspace and reliable, consistent internet access to enable seamless participation in virtual meetings across various platforms, access to virtual files and performance of tasks. In the longer term, this position will work out of NJCC’s New Brunswick office. Adherence to all health and safety requirements, including wearing a face mask in the office. This position will be required to work in the office 5 days per week once COVID-related precautions have been lifted.

Work Schedule

Business hours typically run between 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Some days may require working longer to meet important deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive nonprofit annual salary up to $50K-$60K based on experience and skills, as well as a generous benefits package, including health, dental, disability and life insurance after 30 days of service; 401(k) retirement plan after a year of service; flexible spending accounts, including medical, dependent care, and transportation; and 25 paid leave days, including sick and personal days plus 13 paid holidays.
