Why is this role important?

At Pointed, our B2B writers are our most important hire.

We are looking for writers we can trust to deliver content that delivers real answers to readers while reflecting each brand's value story.

In this role, you'll be expected to write primarily long-form content, as well as other formats, using the highest B2B content writing standards.


The writers who do best on our team tend to have a fun and engaging natural voice and a knack for communicating nuanced industry insights, without boring the reader.

What are our expectations?

Our clients expect high-quality content delivered on time, and so do we.

Everyone on the team is expected to:

  • Learn the client's voice, tone, and style conventions
  • Understand your reader
  • Use credible sources
  • Use voice of customer (VOC) data to make content more relevant
  • Self-edit effectively
  • Have fun

Content can get tough, you need to have ways of protecting your productivity. If you need an extension, let us know asap at least a day in advance so we can communicate with the client.

What tools do we use?

  • Google docs - We use Google docs to submit assets and access version history to review the edits made to each piece and discuss changes, feedback and progress areas during our monthly 1:1 content syncs.
  • Asana - To track assignments, swap notes on specific pieces, and keep projects on track.
  • Airtable - Our Messaging Libraries are home to the brand Style Guide, VOC resources, live assets, etc. — they also come packed with stats, quotes, and other data points you can pull straight into your outlines.
  • Zoom - For our monthly 1:1s to transfer knowledge about client-side changes in strategy, product, and messaging, share ideas and coach writers on craft. We also have a monthly team drop-in where we just hang out and chat.

How to apply

We're looking for samples that demonstrate:


  • A clear understanding of high-quality vs. low-quality sources, including credible source links to substantiate any claims made in your writing.
  • A respect for substance, including actionable, non-generic advice readers can immediately apply
  • A casual yet intelligent tone of voice that will appeal to millennial B2B buyers

Responsibilities

  • Research like a reporter, pinpointing the most relevant trends and giving proper accreditation to credible sources
  • Write content that cuts through the noise to clearly and directly support the one main message of each piece
  • Self-edit to ensure voice, grammar and style are always on point
  • Be an advocate for the reader—always address their real-life fears and motivations

  • Rolling retainer worth $12K per year for four pieces per month (1,500-2,000 words each)
  • Bonus system for quality work

  • Editorial assistant to support with research and outlining
  • 1 x one-on-one content sync per month
  • Monthly team drop-ins

  • You're really not that into B2B. If you hate research or just want to write a travel blog, you won't enjoy this work.
  • You're not 110% comfortable writing about complex topics in conversational US and UK English. We know there are great writers all over the world, but if you aren't an ace with US and UK English, this may be a waste of your time and energy.
