The Attendant is responsible for (1) providing meal preparation; housekeeping activities and related home activities to clients in their homes; (2) providing various client related services to assist clients with personal care needs and to promote comfort and independence to clients in their homes; and (3) recording clinical and progress notes. He/she works under the direct supervision of the designated supervisor. The Attendant works under the duties outlined in the Care Plan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Productivity:

1. Assists clients with basic personal care such as assistance with bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, shaving, toileting (including emptying urine collection and colostomy bags), dressing, skin care, and ambulation.

2. Assist client with proper body mechanics.

3. Provides reality orientation and sensory stimulation.

4. Provides general cleaning; laundering clothes, makes and changes bed lines, dusts, vacuums, mops/ sweeps floors and washing windows.

5. Provides social interaction for the client.

6. Prepares and serves meals according to instructions.

7. Assist clients with reminders to self administer medications.

8. Provides clean and safe environment within the home including safe use of equipment such as foot stools, side rails, oxygen, wheelchairs, walkers, etc.

9. Demonstrates positive communication with the client/family.

10. Adheres to minimum productivity requirements as defined by the office.

11. Reports observations of the client’s condition to the designated supervisor(s) or on-call supervisor.

12. Collaborates with other service providers to discuss the client’s plan of care and frequency of visits when needed.

13. Participates in providing 24-hour, seven-day-a-week attendant services as assigned, to meet identified patient/family needs.

14. Drives safely, complies with traffic regulations, and wears a seat belt when business travel is required.

15. Reacts productively to change.

Service:

1. Responds promptly to client requests as directed by attendant care plan.

Continuous Quality Improvement:

1. Ensures confidentiality of client records/information.

2. Attends team meetings and staff meetings to enhance team communication, coordination of services, and quality services.

3. Participates in interdisciplinary case conferences and in-service education programs, as required by agency policies and client needs.

4. Participates in performance improvement activities.

Documentation:

1. Records clinical and progress notes at the time of the visit to ensure continuity of qualitative client care in a timely basis.

2. Completes daily progress notes, timesheets and any required paperwork in a timely fashion to ensure agency operating schedules.

Nonessential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Identifies systems problems as they arise.

2. Performs other related tasks which are consistent with this position and the mission and goals of Anchor Health Systems, Inc.

Recommended Minimum Position Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent and has the ability to successfully pass the attendant care training program.

2. Ability to relate to and/or care for acutely ill/chronically ill or those individuals with a physical or mental impairment, their families and their particular problems.

3. Ability to function in any home situation regardless of age, race, creed, color, sex, disability, or financial condition of the patient.

4. Must possess the disposition and personality to work harmoniously with a wide variety of people and all levels of staff, and interact professionally as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

5. Must possess a strong commitment to the goals, mission, and philosophy of the organization.

6. Ability to work flexible hours as required meeting identified patient needs.

7. Absolute integrity and the use of good judgment to handle the professional and confidential nature of assignments.

8. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

9. Demonstrate the ability to communicate adequately in order to; complete required forms and reports of visits; and follow oral or written instructions.

10. Demonstrate the ability to provide services according to the client’s Care Plan/Individualized Support Plan.

11. Demonstrate willingness to accept supervision.

12. Demonstrate an interest in and empathy for individuals.

13. Ability to adapt to changing organizational needs.

14. Speaks, writes, reads, and comprehends English.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Physical requirements for this position are classified as medium under the Department of Labor classification. The employee must be capable or exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally (less that 1/3 of the time), and /or 10-20 pounds of force frequently (1/2 of the time), and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly (2/3 of the time) to move objects or office equipment. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, kneel, bend or crouch. The employee is required to have visual and hearing acuity sufficient enough to perform the above duties. This position is classified as a Category 1 for the purpose of exposure determination under the OSHA Regulations regarding the Standard of Occupational Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens (29CFR 1910.1030). Category 1 is defined as all procedures or job-related tasks that involve an inherent risk for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or potential for spills and/or splashed of blood or body fluids. The use of protective equipment and measures is required for every employee engaged in Category 1 tasks.

Pay: $11.00 - $12.00 per hour
