Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is looking for an Associate/Cyber Software Engineer for a unique opportunity that offers immediate, hands-on development opportunities in an Unclassified Lab as the candidate progresses toward a TS/SCI clearance in Beavercreek, OH.

The project utilizes a variety of software development languages to supplement a core code-base comprised of C, C++, and Python. The selected candidate will embed with a small team of highly skilled, senior engineers to introduce and extend capabilities of open-source toolsets. These toolsets are utilized to perform dynamic and static analysis of binary files to determine and identify the existence of actionable vulnerabilities. The project offers customer and end user interaction; offering the candidate opportunities to provide insight and recommendations in extending the Open-Source tools directly to the project sponsors. The position requires the ability to quickly adapt to new tools and environments with a significant emphasis on attention to detail. Independent learning skills and continued learning are a must, as technologies, platforms, and concepts are continually introduced to the project. Preferred skills include exposure or experience with fuzzing, QEMU, reading, writing, analyzing, and debugging assembly and familiarity with software reverse engineering. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Basic Qualifications for an Associate Cyber Software Engineer:

  • One of the following:

    • High school diploma with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related STEM degree with 0 years of experience

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret/SCI clearance

  • Must have experience with C, C++, and Python programming languages

  • Familiarity with Assembly

  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems

Basic Qualifications for a Cyber Software Engineer:

  • One of the following:

    • High school diploma with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related STEM degree with 2 years of relevant experience

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret/SCI clearance

  • Must have experience with C, C++, and Python programming languages

  • Familiarity with Assembly

  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Reverse Engineering/Vulnerability Research

  • Experience with Device Drivers/Kernel development

  • Familiarity with IDA Pro

  • Familiarity with binary analysis tools such as Panda/QEMU, LLVM, angr, etc.

  • Familiarity with debugging tools, Wireshark, etc.

  • Familiarity with Compiler Theory

  • Familiarity with Fuzzing

  • Familiarity with X86

  • Knowledge of x86/x64 architecture (registers, FPU, etc.)

  • Experience with Binary Software Reverse Engineering

  • Experience with IDA-Pro, Hex-Rays Decompiler

  • Experience with emulators such as QEMU, Valgrind, Bochs

  • Experience with binary analysis software such as angr, PANDA

  • Compiler/Linker Development experience: gcc, clang, GNU ld, gas, nasm, LLVM, etc. (Contribution to open source projects a plus)

  • Understanding of runtime linker, jump tables, PIC/PIE, virtual dispatch, calling conventions, etc.

  • Embedded systems development experience



Salary Range: $70,200 USD - $105,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $85,000 USD - $127,600 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
