Summary Description:

To support individuals with intellectual disabilities in their homes and in the community by overseeing the day to day operations of a residential program; to assist in developing, implementing and completing action steps in pursuit of achieving goals as defined in the individual?s plan.


Responsibilities and tasks include but are not limited to:


  • Enhancing the lives of the Individuals by ensuring they receive all the supports they require as individuals
  • Supervise and lead a team of employees

  • Ensure the appropriate level of Individuals supervision by adhering to the staffing pattern
  • Fulfill state and federal requirements
  • Provide and ensure the provision of direct supports and services to the program Individuals, and provide coverage as needed
  • Assist to develop and maintain programs and services as appropriate to each individual
  • Participant in the planning process for the individuals to whom support is provided
  • Promote interaction in social settings
  • Maintain consistent professional ethics and values as they relate to the Individual?s support as well as the agency mission.
  • Provide and promote appropriate interaction in social settings
  • Develop person-centered programming (goals, activities, supports, services, etc.) based on individuals? interests, needs and abilities while ensuring that accurate data is collected
  • Provide behavioral and emotional supports
  • Administer medications according to Harc and Department of Developmental Services policies
  • Plan and implement recreational activities ? develop community connections
  • Personal hygiene care with Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
  • Create and maintain open lines of communication between all team members, including families, guardians, day programs, medical professionals, etc.
  • Meal preparation, housekeeping, vehicle maintenance
  • Participate in all trainings and staff meetings as required by Department of Developmental Services, Harc, and any other state or federal governmental agency.
  • Ensure that all employees are up to date on all trainings as required by Department of Developmental Services, Harc, and any other state or federal governmental agency.
  • Develop and implement all protocols and guidelines as established by the Planning and Support Team.
  • Establish and implement the house and daily Individual routines
  • Ensure all Individuals medical issues are being addressed; appointments attended and provide any necessary follow-up.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Is responsible for assuring the Individuals are receiving all of the supports they require as individuals and as a group of people sharing a living space/residence by assisting the Director of Residential Supports with the following areas; levels of Individual supports may range from intermittent to pervasive supports.
  • Supports the Individuals by ensuring their overall health and safety meeting all state, local, and agency regulations, policies, procedures and practices.
  • Supports the Individuals by assisting them with the administration of their medications in accordance with DDS, Medication Administration Certification requirements while considering each individual?s level of support needs. Keeps in mind that individual levels of support may range from intermittent to pervasive supports. Provides support staff with guidance surrounding each individual?s needs in this area while assuring all documentation and practices required by DDS and the agency are completed, thus ensuring the Individuals health and safety.
  • Supports the Individuals and support staff by evaluating or assisting with the identification, assessment and reporting of circumstances occurring at the time a person experiences, a seizure, injury, illness, behavioral episode and/or any other medical or emotional difficulty an Individual may have.
  • Ensures all documentation related to any emergency is completed within the required time frame and the Director of Resident Supports is notified.
  • Provide an efficient system to the Individual and support staff that will assure the Individuals timely, effective medical treatment both as mandated and as needed, thus, ensuring each Individuals a safe and healthful life.
  • Supports the Individuals by assisting them with personal hygiene needs such as, tooth brushing, flossing, showering, toileting, menstruation care. These supports will range from intermittent to pervasive levels. Supports the Individuals by providing new employee training that is specific to the individuals support needs as well as routines of their residence and agency practices. Monitors ongoing training that are designed to enhance the Individuals supports as required by the agency and State of Connecticut. Support staff to participate in any other training?s offered that may enhance the Individuals lives.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with all people, using a variety of communication systems when needed to effectively support an individual.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality with limited unscheduled absences is essential.

Additional Job Functions:


  • Is responsible for ensuring Individuals are receiving all of the supports they require as individuals and as a group of people sharing a living space. levels of individual supports may range from intermittent to pervasive supports.
  • Supports the Individuals by delegating routine tasks, to the House Supervisor of Residential Supports Assistants, Substitutes and Volunteers.
  • Provides supervision and timely feedback to the House Supervisor of Residential Supports, Substitutes and Volunteers in all areas that impact the Individuals support requirements. This includes providing guidance and evaluations to ensure competency of support staff.
  • Maintains close communication with the Director of Residential Supports or Assistant Director of Residential Supports surrounding the hiring or recommended termination of House Supervisor of Residential Support.
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings. Ensures agenda are designed to enhance the Individual support and maintain agency standards and practices.
  • Ensures Individual supports are being provided on a daily basis by monitoring all individual progress data collected by the House Supervisor of Residential Supports and Residential Support Staff.
  • Supports the Individuals by ensuring all planning and support team members are prepared for the Individual meetings (i.e., Individual Plan, Periodic Reviews, and specialized PST Meetings). This includes, but is not limited to, completed reports, the Individuals being involved in any meeting held on their behalf to their highest ability, and ensuring the support staff are active participants in any ongoing process noted.
  • Ensures that all Individuals support staff serve as a supportive companion, advocate and teacher each Individual by providing effective on-site training and supervision to the Individuals support staff as needed. Staff training includes, but is not limited to, the effective use of community and educational supports for transportation, community service professionals for additional support, financial institutions as teaching mechanisms, and community recreation and leisure activities for inclusion and quality of life enhancements.
  • Ensures the Individuals are receiving the level of supports they need to create and maintain well-balanced meals through menu review and supervision to support staff. These supports may range from intermittent to pervasive supports as they relate to the planning, purchasing and preparation of meals.
  • Supports the Individuals by assuring them a well-maintained home by setting a high quality assurance standard as it relates to the maintenance and cleaning of the Individuals home and all properties.
  • Provide required, direct support to them within their home or community environment.
