The City of Irvine seeks a dynamic and energetic Aquatics Coordinator to assist with the operational supervision of the Irvine Aquatics Centers. This position will coordinate special events and reservations, develop pool use allocation schedules to accommodate the needs of many organizations, evaluate statistical reports, be responsible for developing marketing materials, and assist with programming.

The work schedule for the Aquatics Coordinator will include weekday evening hours and occasional weekends.

Your Impact
  • Develops and coordinates programs and events for a variety of age groups and/or interests in coordination with the Irvine Unified School District and other affiliated organizations.
  • Recommends and implements goals, objectives, and policies relevant to programs and Aquatics Complex operations.
  • Supervises part-time staff, evaluates employee performance, and provides technical guidance and training.
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, and scheduling. Assists in coordinating certification process of all aquatics staff to ensure that activities meet with applicable local and state requirements.
  • Assists in supervising the daily operations of the Irvine Aquatics Complex, including monitoring budget, preparing billing and account statements, and purchasing supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinates special events and assists in developing pool use allocation schedules in collaboration with the Irvine Unified School District and other affiliated organizations.
  • Compiles and evaluates participation data, prepares monthly reports, and presents program information at departmental and community meetings. Conducts customer satisfaction and participation surveys.
  • Performs lifeguard duties. Conducts health and safety training. Assists in the installation and removal of pool covers/lane lines.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in aquatic program development/pool management.
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to possess or obtain Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR-FPR, and WSI certification required.
  • May require a valid California driver’s license.

The Fine Arts Center is an extensively programmed facility that presents art exhibitions, arts events, and art classes up to 12 hours a day, six days a week.

The Process

Retirement
The City offers the CalPERS 2% at 62 formula for new CalPERS members.; OR 2% at 55 formula for existing CalPERS members with less than a six-month break in service from another CalPERS or CalPERS reciprocal agency. Leave Time
80 to 160 hours of annual vacation accrual, depending on years of service; 11 paid holidays per year; 96 hours of sick leave per year; and 80 hours of annual personal leave. City employees currently work a 36/44 hour work week schedule.
