Position Summary:
The Anti-Trafficking Advocate is responsible for engaging and serving at-risk adults, will provide emergency intervention and stabilization for trafficking victims and secondary victims of human trafficking. Networks with all Tribal Departments and other local or state services with the goal towards self-sufficiency and empowerment and maintains case files.
This position provides case management and outreach as well as continually builds the referral network of options. Assist with grant quarterly reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responds to telephone inquires and walk-in request for services, completes risk assessments and safety planning: Assess each client for issues related to risk of further abuse; provide options in planning for personal safety on an ongoing basis.
  • Crisis intervention: Guide, empower and educate client in achieving safety and recognizing options; provide solutions-oriented support; and maintain confidentiality.
  • Client advocacy and case management: Provide support to human trafficking survivors, address housing and legal needs, emergency food and clothing; relationship building and empowerment of the individual's community; arriving at mutually agreed upon and achievable goals; and referral and coordination with community organizations.
  • Networks and forms effective and cooperative working relationships with all Tribal Departments including Social Services, Wraparound, Substance Abuse, Mental Health or other services.
  • Outreach: Work with Trafficking Project Coordinator and community partners, businesses (Marine View Venture, Emerald Queen Casino, Tribal Entities etc.) to provide outreach and education on human trafficking to increase victim identification and support services; Provide quarterly Newspaper Articles to Tribal Newspaper; plan and execute outreach plan/strategy for client-specific outreach i.e. Human Trafficking in Indian Country Annual Conference, MMIW, Trafficking Awareness Month.
  • Responds to requests from Tribal members or members of the community to supply information and referral to access programs, services, court system or other services. Provide advocacy and accompaniment during law enforcement interviews, forensic medical exams, prosecution interviews, court proceedings, and other supportive meetings.
  • Indirect services: Attend staffing and other meetings as required; case review and coordination; assist with crisis line; maintain client files;
  • Maintains case files for each client, intakes, contact sheets, and a data tracking system for grant reporting only.
  • Assists in preparing quarterly reports and responsible for compliance advocacy services.
  • Assists victim in developing personal safety and address intimidation issues.
  • Provide services to clients referred by local programs and/or agencies including Kwawachee and PTHA.
  • Facilitates weekly women’s support groups by implementing Tribal cultural art and traditions.
  • Identifies and updates resources to address victim’s concerns of retaliations, lack of trust in programs and services or fear of reporting.
  • Attend meetings for committees and grants as necessary.
  • Assist women in preparing for court and present in court when necessary for both State and Tribal courts.
  • Maintain compliance of State, Federal and Trust Board grants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) or equivalent from four-year college with major coursework in sociology, psychology or other human services related field; and two or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Sexual assault and domestic violence peer counseling certification required upon hire. Or obtain within 90 days of hire date. Beginner to Intermediate experience and knowledge using word processing and spreadsheets (i.e. Word for Windows, Excel, Access, etc.).

Language Skills
Employee must demonstrate the ability to interact tactfully and positively with Tribal members, all levels of staff and management. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff and regulatory agencies. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. Ability to effectively present information to management, employees and groups of people.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions and apply them to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Licenses or Certificates
Must have a valid Washington state drivers license and proof of insurance.
Other
Must be comfortable and confident working and interacting with law enforcement.
High degree of sensitivity to and respect for diversity and cultural issues involved in working with individuals and income.
High tolerance and respect for individual survival strategies while promoting ever-increasing healthier choices.
Knowledge of principles and practices of victim counseling.
Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
Ability to negotiate and problem solve.
Knowledge of post-traumatic stress syndrome and immediate and long terms effects of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
