DEFINITION

Under general supervision, performs a variety of work in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of the County’s airports and related infrastructure; maintains airport equipment, facilities, and grounds in safe and working condition; assists in the enforcement of airport regulations and in the implementation of emergency response procedures; and performs related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Airport Manager. Exercises no direct supervision over staff. May provide technical and functional direction to assigned staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level class in the airport technician series that performs the full range of duties required to ensure that County airport infrastructure, systems, and facilities to which assigned, are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. Positions at this level must be able to work with limited instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Senior Airport Technician in that the latter is responsible for technical and functional supervision of lower-level staff and is capable of performing the most complex duties assigned to the division.


Minimum Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be

Completion of the twelfth (12th) grade or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, contracting, or similar. Experience in an airport setting is desirable.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s License by time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record.

Possession of operator’s certificate to operate a forklift within six (6) months of appointment.

Possession of a Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate within one (1) year of appointment.
