Precision Wire EDM Operator

This Precision Wire EDM Operator role is not a “production” position and not mass producing anything. This opportunity involves one-off, tight tolerance, punch and die components for use in our own progressive dies. While the workplace is fast-paced, the precision wire EDM work cannot be rushed, so the wire EDM professional will take the time they need to take.

The wire EDM person inspects their own work. If a mistake is made, they will tell the tool room foreman about the scrapped piece, and the wire EDM person makes the part again using what they learned to make it right the second time.

The wire EDM person is a very valuable player on the tool room team.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

* Previous Wire EDM experience

* Able to “indicate” a workpiece (done by running a dial indicator gage over a workpiece to make sure the workpiece is flat an parallel)-I saw this on Mike Ma’s resume

* Able to read blueprints/technical drawings of tool components

* Able to read a micrometer to “tenths” - .0001”

* Able to inspect all of your own work on a manual optical comparator machine with a digital readout (measure to “tenths” .0001”)

* Be organized and able to save file paperwork and tool components that you have created or worked with

* Be neat and clean regarding the work area, including the wire EDM machines and the desktops in the department

* Be proactive in performing machine maintenance (maintenance specifics)

* Communicate well with engineering and the tool room departments

* Don’t pretend to know anything you don’t know – ask questions before making scrap

* Don’t assume anything – a question is better than a mistake

* Attitude, Aptitude, and Work Ethic

ADDITIONAL NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS:

* Experience with Charmilles brand Wire EDM

* Experience programming from a cad file for the wire EDM

* Experience with Esprit CAM software for programming wire EDM

* Experience wire EDM’ing close tolerance shapes

* Experience wire EDM’ing openings with die taper

* Experience with progressive die construction

* Experience in drawing with Autocad

* Experience in progressive die design
