POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate Artistic Director will serve as a key member of The Old Globe’s artistic team, a close ally reporting directly to Erna Vinci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein. Responsibilities of this senior artistic position include:

• Own all artistic line producing responsibilities for The Old Globe’s wide range of plays and musicals, overseeing the successful execution of all seasonal offerings through a collaborative approach to leadership and oversight.
• Take a significant role in new play development and cultivation, forging strong relationships with important writers and creators.
• Oversee associates and members of The Old Globe’s artistic team, providing clear and effective direction and management of work flows.
• Work closely with the Senior Producer to plan and execute productions, including planning and engaging creative teams.
• Serve as a primary liaison between artists and The Old Globe’s internal departments including but not limited to Marketing, Development, and General Management.
• Plan and lead creative team meetings and coordinate design presentations in collaboration with Production.
• Communicate in a proactive manner with production departments so that timely and efficient work processes can be maintained.
• Be an active partner in all season planning, being well versed in all repertoire and constantly staying ahead of the curve in regards to top field artists that The Old Globe seeks to make a part of its artistic community.
• Maintain great relationships with actors, directors, designers, agents, and managers that allow The Old Globe to always be perceived as an industry leader.
• Participate in content creation of playbill copy, press releases, marketing materials, and other collateral.
• As appropriate and when called upon, represent The Old Globe as a public ambassador, supporting all community arts engagement, development, and advocacy efforts on a local, regional, and national level.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL TRAITS

No one person will fully meet all these qualifications, but The Old Globe is seeking these qualities in serious candidates for the Associate Artistic Director role:

• Ability to manage among multiple concurrent projects with competing and unpredictable schedules, a constant vying for the time and attention each production deserves and creating as smooth a glide path as possible for each one; doing this will require ongoing consultation with all The Old Globe production and administrative departments.
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience in non-profit theater and theater-at-large, combined with the ability to comfortably connect with commercial theatre development.

POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Guided by the belief that theatre matters and a commitment to make it matter to more people, the Director of Arts Engagement is responsible to envision, create, implement, and oversee all of The Old Globe’s arts engagement programs, including highly active artist-facilitated programming in the community and on the Plaza of Balboa Park where the company is located.

The Director of Arts Engagement will:

• Provide departmental oversight to all Arts Engagement activities through leadership, strategic vision, planning, evaluation, and departmental management of six full time managers, over two dozen teaching artists, and all independently contracted artists and presenters;
• Work with the Arts Engagement Program Managers to conceptualize, plan, develop, and execute all arts engagement programming to deepen The Old Globe’s connection to communities that lack access to professional theater arts;
• Collaborate with the Artistic staff to commission works from community artists and develop ideas for site-specific events that express and amplify the theater’s values;
• Collaborate with relevant departments to create and execute programs and engagement events related to the Globe’s productions;
• Provide artistic and producing supervision and oversight for “Globe For All” tours (the Globe’s tour of professional productions to community venues);
• Develop and maintain relationships with Community Partner organizations, artists, and community leaders through networking and outreach;
• Identify opportunities for enhanced community engagement and partnerships that deepen the community’s connections with The Old Globe and vice versa;
• Foster a productive and healthy dynamic with stakeholders, including staff, board, and community partners;
• Work closely with the Philanthropy Department to cultivate relationships and solicit funding for programs;
• Work with Marketing/Communications Department to promote opportunities that highlight the impact of The Old Globe’s programs and to promote the Arts Engagement Department’s own work;
• Serve on the Season Planning task force that collaborates with and advises the Artistic Director on the Globe’s annual subscription season offerings;
• Represent The Old Globe in professional organizations in Balboa Park, San Diego, California, and nationwide.

Custodial Supervisor (Temporary)

The Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park seeks a Custodial Supervisor temporary full-time position through approximately February of 2023. Reporting to the Facilities Director, the supervisor is responsible for overseeing all of the custodial functions of the Globe facilities. The position directly supervises all custodial staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, managing.

The Custodial Supervisor will work alongside custodian staff to ensure the cleanliness of the all Globe office spaces, work areas, rehearsal and event spaces, and outdoor spaces, including the Globe three theatres, Technical Center, and other Globe facilities, and also fill-in as required.

Experience as a supervisor in cleaning services or maintenance, and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work required.

The Old Globe in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park seeks a highly motivated part-time custodian to work in facilities and on grounds, cleaning and providing general maintenance to all areas. Duties include sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming hallways, stairs, office spaces, and theatres; emptying trash and garbage containers inside and outside; and cleaning debris and stains from plaza sidewalk.

Maintenance Technician

The Old Globe seeks a skilled general maintenance technician with a strong background in building maintenance, HVAC systems, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing maintenance, to work for this award-winning, acclaimed regional theatre located in beautiful Balboa Park.

Job duties include: monitoring and troubleshooting boiler and HVAC units; appliance maintenance and repair; plumbing repair; preventive maintenance/repair on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment; electrical work including replacing and installing electrical components and equipment; and event setup.

3-5 years building maintenance experience strongly preferred. Flexible schedule including evening and weekend work required. The Old Globe Theatre is seeking applicants for a Human Resources Generalist for this renowned regional theatre located in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park. Events Director

The Old Globe seeks a full-time Events Director with a proven track record of superb customer service, complex event management and execution, and successful donor relations management. With a budget of nearly $35 million, the Tony Award-winning Old Globe, located in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park, is a recognized leader among American regional theatres. Known for producing a broad range of work from Shakespeare and the classical repertoire to world premiere musicals and plays, the Globe annually produces 15 productions, including a “Globe for All” touring program that performs in community venues throughout San Diego County.

The Events Director is responsible for 50-100 events annually, including developing, managing, and executing donor recognition and cultivation events, the annual Globe Gala, the annual Founders Dinner, and events for other departments. In addition, the Events Director oversees the Lipinsky Family Suite, a lounge for donors open for all subscription performances, and supervises an Events Assistant and the Suite and events staff.

We seek a motivated and organized events planned who is professional and donor-centered and provides the highest level of customer service to Globe patrons and donors. The successful candidate will have outstanding verbal and written communication, budgeting, planning, and scheduling skills. Charge Scenic Artist

The Old Globe, a Tony Award-winning theatre and one of the country’s leading regional LORT B+ theatres seeking qualified applicants for a Charge Scenic Artist. Position is responsible for leading the scenic art department in support of The Old Globe’s 15 show season. The Old Globe is known for producing a broad range of work from Shakespeare and the classical repertoire to world premiere musicals and plays, touring productions, and Arts Engagement events.

In this role, you’ll get to work with some of America’s best scenic designers, directors, and creative teams working in our three theatres located in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park. The paint shop is located at The Old Globe’s Technical Center, a 30,000 square foot facility a few miles from the theatres which also contains the scene shop, offices, and production storage. This position is an excellent opportunity to practice scenic artistry at the highest level in regional theatre.

Responsibilities: The Charge Scenic Artist is a key member of our scenery team and is responsible for all painting and surface finishes for all Old Globe productions and other assigned projects. Budget, schedule, and hire for all paint shop needs. Collaborate directly with designers to determine appropriate finish and paint techniques. Interpret designer renderings, drawings, and descriptions. Direct the work of staff and over-hire scenic artists, and estimate time and materials. The Charge Scenic Artist is integral to our safety programs, and must set and maintain safety standards and procedures and train and monitor employees for proper compliance with safe work practices.

The Old Globe Theatre seeks a part-time Public Safety Team Member for its theatre complex in Balboa Park.
