Looking for someone to provide services of a journey level Welder. The candidate welds in all positions, all types of metals and alloys in various sizes and shapes including pipes, boilers, and pressure vessels, structural forms, plate, sheet metal, bar stock, castings, forgings, machinery and equipment in the fabrication and repair of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures, and other items and structures and in the maintenance of buildings and other structures, utility systems, and transportation and construction equipment. He or she uses various manual, electric arc or gas welding methods or combinations of both methods. Incumbent also performs pressure pipe welding.

Candidate must follow all ASME National Board code requirements when welding high?pressure fittings. Certification may be required on designated work to meet code requirements.

Candidate is required to produce pipe test coupon in accordance with a Welding Procedure Specification for A106 or A53 pipe (provided @ time of hire), welding to be accomplished in the 6G position using gov?t furnished equipment (assume SMAW). Coupon will be subject to various inspections and certifications by a third party testing firm. Candidate would be allowed two (2) attempts if needed within 10 working days.

Work requires the employee to drive a vehicle. A valid State driver?s license is required.

Candidate must be able to wear and use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) to meet requirements of duties being performed (safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, ear plugs, hardhat, etc.).

  • As a Welder, the duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Lays out work from blueprints, specifications and oral instructions. Selects most effective welding procedure specification sequence I.A.W, code Section IX.
  • Sets up jigs and fixtures. Bolts, clamps, blocks, tack welds, lifts and holds with chain hoist, levers, or block and tackle, or otherwise secures parts in proper alignment including setting up, sizing, and aligning various size pipes and pipe fittings for welding.
  • Cleans area to be welded with files, wire brushes, portable grinding wheel and scaling or chipping hammers. When using arc welding equipment, connects power cables and grounds to electrode holder, feeds, generator, transformer, and other items to be welded. Connects inert gas feeds when required.
  • Selects proper size and type electrodes or welding rods for type of weld.
  • Takes fire and other safety precautions.
  • Adjust controls for polarity, voltage, amperage and power feeds. Draws arc and weld items with proper joints.
  • After welding, removes slag from line of weld and smoothing welds with grinding wheel or hammers...
  • Makes adjustments and minor repairs to welding heads or tips, tools, electrodes and equipment controls.
  • When using gas welding equipment, connects tanks, hose, regulators, torch and welding rod. Takes fire and other safety precautions. Applies proper fluxes to welding rod and work piece, or uses coated rods, as required by the nature of the weld. Lights torch, adjusts flame for carburizing, neutral, or oxidizing effect as required, and welds items with proper joint. Uses principally oxyacetylene equipment.
  • Performs duties such as the following; operates gas cutting hand torch or portable electric arc cutting machine to trim parts before welding to insure proper alignment or fit, to remove obstructions or to cut materials when necessary on site. Building up metal surfaces of equipment for machining.
  • Brazes and solders metals as required. Preheats items to be welded with torch or furnace,
  • I.A.W. ASME code. Performs various flame heat treating operations such as hard surfacing, stress-relieving and annealing by use of torches. l. Produces welds subject to water or gas tight pressure. Is required to pass periodic certification tests.
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints, and select the most effective welding sequence. Must have the ability to arc weld and gas weld all types of metals and alloys in various sizes and shapes.
  • Must be capable of setting up jibs and fixtures. Must be able to use various tools of the trade such as cutting torch, grinder, chipping hammer, clamps, etc.
  • Must be able to choose the proper method of welding depending upon the job and material to be welded. Must know what the safety precautions are for the particular job and work area.
