The City of Sugar Land is inviting hard-working professionals who are interested in a full-time program position as a Water Quality Technician to apply to join our amazing City! This exciting position works Monday-Friday from 7:00am to 4:00pm as well as occasional after hours when in an emergency operation is activated.

Summary of Duties

Are You a Good Fit?
The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and test a variety of water quality assurance tasks, including collecting and testing field samples. The ideal candidate must maintain a working knowledge of EPA and TCEQ regulations while inputting and maintaining the water quality database. An understanding of analyzing test results and recording accurate and detailed records for the water quality program is essential for success in this role. We are looking for a candidate that is able to prioritize and manage work assignments in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to make independent judgements is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of organization, and self-motivation. We are looking for someone who can assist the Water Quality Manager with professionalism and patience. Ask yourself: Do you enjoy testing water samples and analyzing the results? Minimum Qualifications

What We Need from You as A Water Quality Technician
As our Water Quality Technician, you will represent the City of Sugar Land Public Works Department. You will be responsible for all aspects of the water sampling testing process. You will conduct frequent water quality inspections including sampling, collecting, testing and recording all data results. Much of your day will be spent outside in the field which brings unpredictable weather hazards. This position will enhance team building skills and your knowledge of water quality assurance measures. It is your priority to deliver excellent water services to our citizens while meeting state and federal water quality standards.
The ideal candidate is innovative, motivated, organized, and dependable. You listen to your team and enhance all current projects and initiatives. You are a quick learner and thorough, so your work is completed by each deadline. You follow through and are accountable for all actions. Being at work on time is a priority along with following all safety protocols. When an emergency situation arises, you are not easily flustered, but are willing to work hard to help in any way designated by your leadership team. A great candidate would also ensure that routine maintenance programs are maintained and completed in a timely manner. At the end of the day, you get great satisfaction out of completing a hard days’ work by making our citizen’s experience with water quality exemplary. • High School Diploma or GED Certificate required.
• One to two years of a technical or vocational school with specialized training in environmental testing is preferred but not required.
• Two years of related experience in environmental testing/water system experience, including performing field-testing and regulatory compliance monitoring, is required.
• Municipal experience is preferred
• Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License
• TCEQ Class “C” Water Operator License is required.
