**FULL SALARY RANGE $48,635 - $67,096 : ACTUAL STARTING RATE DOQ**

SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION

The Wastewater Plant Operator III position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of plant machinery and equipment, and for determining chemical dosage and flow adjustments for the Wastewater Plant. Responsible for mentoring new employees through job training on-site and providing resources such as web based and written materials to set them up for success. Completes and maintains required TCEQ, State and Federal forms and documents as required. Determines proper corrective procedures regarding water quality, implements procedures and performs follow up to assure integrity of processes. This position is on-site, and punctuality and regular attendance are necessary.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES

There is no direct budgetary responsibility associated with this position, however, may assist Superintendent and other departmental staff with identification of budgetary needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Performs preventative maintenance and repairs of tools and equipment. Assists operators with quality control of the water that is discharged. Ensures water is properly treated and that standards of quality are met. Maintains all areas of the treatment plant including machinery, filters, outside areas and buildings. Mows and edges the grass around the facility as needed.

Determines proper chemical doses for wastewater treatment and performs lab tests to ensure appropriate chemical balance. Maintains records and logs of work performed such as tasks completed, and inventory of materials and equipment. Performs all duties and jobs using the best safety practices. Performs other functions or duties as required.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Ability to sit, stand and transport self from building to building. Employee will frequently be exposed to extreme seasonal temperatures while utilizing and maintaining wastewater plant equipment and materials. Ability to stoop and climb into small areas. Ability to lift materials up to 75lbs including but not limited to chemicals and equipment as necessary to complete the work. Employee may also be exposed to hazardous chemicals or materials while treating or maintaining water.

REQUIRED CONTACTS

Employee communicates with other city employees and managers in order to receive and respond to instructions or provide information. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to be able to clearly and accurately provide to customers and vendors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills – This position requires strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to read and comprehend O&M manuals. Ability to read and prepare tests and lab reports. Skilled in math in determining amounts of materials and chemicals necessary for treatment. Skilled in the use of a variety of machinery and heavy equipment such as tractors and mowers. Ability to work well under minimal supervision.

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification - High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Texas Driver's License. Must have Texas Class B Wastewater License. Strong mechanical skills. and 4 years of experience.
