Job Summary

We are rapidly expanding our business as one of top-3 players in the 3-Billion US market and are looking for a VP of Sales (Americas) as a member of senior US executive team. You will be responsible for aggressively growing US sales for all products, develop and deliver sales strategy as well as hire, retain and develop key talent to drive customer satisfaction and, in turn, revenue growth.

As the VP of Sales (Americas), reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead a team of sales professionals across the region. Focusing primarily on Field Sales, you will also be responsible for all aspects of sales including inside sales by developing and delivering best-in-class sales strategies to exceed sales goals, maximize revenue and gain market share.

Your Experience: Extensive NGS (NextGen Sequencing) sales experience and demonstrated ability of building a strong sales team in selling capital equipment into the targeted customers. Ability to attract and hire star players is a must. Proven ability to work in a start-up, early-stage commercial organization, where you need to determine sales strategy, and work with others such as Product and Marketing, customer support, field application support and field services.

Your Leadership Skills: Open communication style. Ability to thrive in a dynamic, cross functional environment. Ability to prioritize tasks and work across group boundaries and different countries in a global scale to meet the needs of the customer. Ability to identify risk areas and clearly communicate criticality; work with the team to address issues leading towards risk mitigation. Proven leadership in a team environment.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attract and hire talents to build a strong field and inside sales organization for a hundreds-of-millions dollar business.
  • Provide leadership to the Direct Sales team across US and be responsible for executing the go-to-market strategy to deliver short and long-term commercial success
  • Develop and deploy a sales strategy that is aligned with the broader Commercial organization and leads to increased customer value creation and gains market share
  • Achieve or exceed revenue goals and drive growth through sales and marketing partnership and strong execution
  • Directly manage the team through goal setting and using activity and sales metrics to coach and develop
  • Working with Product and Marketing and Finance, develop pricing policies, including volume discounts and terms and
  • Act as voice of the customer and provide product feedback to departments such as Product Support, R&D, and Marketing
  • Actively participate in the establishment of processes, metrics, compensation programs to successfully drive performance to consistently achieve quotas and goals
  • Ensure accuracy of forecasting future sales and forming sales plans to adapt to the constant shifts in the marketplace
  • Maintain an efficient level of cross functional communication with all related departments
  • Contribute to corporate planning as required (may include Commission Plans, Strategic Planning, Brand, Contracts/Agreements, Pricing, Business Development, Quality, etc.)
  • Lead and develop the sales teams to build, improve and broaden the capability and competence of the field team and sales managers
  • Staffing the team for business needs and maintain a good practice level of operation
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned
  • Proactively share experience, knowledge and skills to peers and help to build an organization with strong professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology or Bioinformatics or related subject. With NGS academic training or background or work experience preferred.
  • 10+ years sales management experience in NGS (NextGen Sequencing) field, preferably with selling platform technologies with both capital sales (instrumentation) and consumables sales
  • Demonstrated ability to build and grow sales team, inspire and motivate a team via your vision and strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a sales team in a startup environment and gain market share from incumbent competitors.
  • Ability to lead teams to effectively manage your team and work with other departments in different cultures. Willing to listen to others and flexible in working styles.
  • Proven leadership experience, strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with excellent judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to influence internal and external audiences through excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Multi-years of commercial experience in selling NGS-related products in life sciences to academics, pharma and service providers (CROs)
  • Demonstrable, detailed industry knowledge and solid understanding of market trends within Life Sciences
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Strong analytical, planning, forecasting and budgeting/financial skills
  • In-depth understanding of the sales, sales training, marketing and customer service processes
  • In-depth understanding of systems that support and track sales and contract performance
  • Able to give and receive continual feedback and integrate and apply received feedback in a professional manner
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically, minimum 50% in order to be in person with customers and travel with sales teams on a regular basis
