As the Vice President, Food Safety & Quality Assurance you will provide leadership and expertise to ensure the company’s food products across both JUST Egg and GOOD Meat, meet the highest standards for Food Safety and Quality. You will work closely with global manufacturing, development, sales, purchasing, and regulatory departments to ensure Eat Just has a world class culture of food safety and quality.

You will manage, mentor, and develop our quality assurance teams at Headquarters in Alameda, our advanced manufacturing facility in Appleton, Minnesota, and future international teams.

Our ideal candidate will be a strong leader that is mission-aligned and passionate about our space. You will have a minimum of 15 years of FSQ&A experience, including a combined 10 years of management/leadership experience working across multiple facilities and technologies and in multiple geographic regions.

What you’ll do*

Provide strategic direction and effective execution of food safety and quality assurance plans, policies and actions;

  • Drive the development and implementation of best practices in food safety & quality assurance across all manufacturing platforms.
  • Ensure the successful coordination of external and internal quality and food safety audits for all the facilities. Regularly spends time in the manufacturing plants to observe and coach on FSQA matters. 1
  • Effectively collaborate with the manufacturing and R&D teams to troubleshoot and solve quality issues
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on behalf of the organization for food safety, FSMA, GFSI, and Eat Just FSQA policies and procedures.
  • Work with manufacturing partners FSQA and manufacturing teams to ensure products are produced in a safe, high-quality manner
  • Assure microbial surveillance programs are implemented that meet the desired food safety need; utilize only analytical and microbial testing services that are best-in-class.
  • Compile, evaluate and report on KPIs related to food safety and quality, sanitation, and audit programs.
  • Develop and conduct comprehensive food safety and GMP training programs. Assist copackers as needed in training programs.
  • Assure that good manufacturing practices (GMPs), good agricultural practices (GAPs), and food safety procedures are understood and adhered to at manufacturing sites.
  • Assure that, routinely assessed, improved upon based on the most current science and well-maintained. These programs include but are not limited to routine environmental monitoring, microbiological and indicator testing, and pathogen testing of products, as directed by company policy.
  • If needed, lead food recall preparation and when necessary conduct management processes and associated investigations. Work with necessary teams (e.g., legal, communications, etc.) to assure a thorough process.
  • Recruit, train, mentor and lead a team of FSQA professionals that are focused on driving continuous improvement.

What you’ll bring*

You have a BS or MS in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology or Engineering;

  • Minimum of 15 years of Food Safety and Quality Assurance experience and 10 years combined experience in a leadership capacity managing quality programs across multiple facilities and technologies and in multiple geographic regions;
  • Expert knowledge in FDA regulations and USDA regulations;
  • Certification in at least one GFSI standard and as a US PCQI.
  • Proven ability to manage a multidisciplinary team, covering food safety, food quality, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with a sense of urgency to make continuous improvements.
  • Experience with change management and an ability to drive positive change as it relates to food safety and quality.
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral – you can effectively communicate and work with customers and people at all levels of the company;
  • Collaborative mindset and able to partner effectively with cross-functional leaders and disciplines.
  • Ability to conduct science-based risk analyses and hazard assessments, write and implement HACCP and other food safety/quality programs.
  • Experience in auditing, inspections and Quality Assurance;
  • The ability to make rapid, accurate decisions on issues of food quality and safety.

Additional Information & Requirements*

This is a full-time position onsite, based out of our headquarters in Alameda, CA.

This role will require the ability to travel both domestically and internationally .
